Iran Countdown to Showdown?

Post by Joe »

http://inbrief.threatswatch.org/2006/01 ... -showdown/
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad weighed in, clinging to the ‘peaceful’ nature of the Iranian program by stating, ”I am telling all the powers that the Iranian nation and government, with firmness and wisdom, will continue its path in seeking and utilizing peaceful nuclear energy.”
We can only hope they have peaceful intentions.
The United States has offered the most direct response, as White House Spokesman Scott McClellan said that if Iran “fails to abide by its international obligations there is no other choice but to refer the matter to the Security Council.”
So what exactly is the security council? Is this where they go to agree on invading third world countries?
The current news cycle is replete with stern sound-bites that make for magnetic headlines. However, looking beyond the highlighted text displays a world still largely reluctant to act or even take a clear and unambiguous stand. Meanwhile, time continues to slip by and Iran continues to draw nearer to becoming capable of producing their own nuclear weapons.
Not Cool...

I just say we nuke em now and get it over with.

I do hope it happens while Bush is President though, he's got the balls to do it, if we get a pansy liberal as our next President it may be us getting nuked.

what that accomplishes is:

1.)iran has already stated to "wipe israel off the map" ... so that will stop the killing of people who did not wage war first.

2.)stop them from deciding to "wipe" other people off the map if they so choose

if they have already stated intentions to eliminate a whole country ... what is to stop them if the get the means to do it?

what is to stop them from doing it to other people?

maybe we were not justified on the iraq war for wmd ... but the world, undoubtedly, is safer without sadaam in power and it would have only been a matter of time for him to get wmd's.

Don't you see it a vicious cycle that will never end? That region has been fighting civil wars and what not for 2,000 years.

We already have people in Iran.. It takes months & months of preparation, planning etc.. mapping, the likes.

It is not a matter of if, it is when...

Notice all the countries who are independent, and wealthy-- suddenly are threats... Venezuela, etc..

Blair said Iran’s decision to restart its nuclear program, coupled with Ahmadinejad’s recent inflammatory comments about Israel, “cause real and serious alarm right across the world.” Ahmadinejad recently called for Israel to be “wiped off the map” and said the Holocaust was a “myth.”

Considering that Iran produces a huge chunk of the worlds crude, it would be suicide for the world to turn it to glass....

To take care of the problem, that would be pretty extreme.

My guess is their facility will be bombed. Hopefully be someone else besides the USA or Israel.

I didnt read it all, but I say let them play with nuclear power. Is there any evidence that shows them planning it for weapons?

if we go to war with Iran, I don't think it's going to be anywhere near like what Iraq was/is.

Makes sense,,, The Chinese are no longer going to build their dollar reserves. They are keeping what they have, or will be using the reserve to trade for tangible assests.

The Izzy's are buddy buddy with the Kurds in N. Iraq now, will probably use airfields there to refuel their planes on the way to Iran to bomb. Won't have to get the Iraqi's approval for those.
