reliable email out there?

Post by Druss »

Well, it looks like my comcast@home service in indiana is going to work well enough that i'll keep it (knock on wood!)

However, our email is really important since my wife has a home business and gets work via email. Is there any free, reliable, alternative to @home email that will probably be around for a long long time? Just wondering before we tell everyone our new email address after we drop our dial up provider.

Just wondering what everyone else thinks or is doing about this. Their email seems decent sometimes, but then other times it will be down for 12 hours at a time.

Use netmail.home.com as your mail server instead of the default mail. It seems to work pretty well.

Ok, forgive my ignorance, but if i am in outlook express and I go into TOOLS, ACCOUNTS, MAIL tab, PROPERTIES of comcast mail, then SERVERS tab, do i put that as my incoming/outgoing mail, or should i create a new mail connection totally?

When do i put the suggested server, specifically?

Yes, go change your incoming and outgoing servers to netmail.home.com
You do not need to make a new mail connection.
What are your mail servers listed as right now?

Your username and password should be the same.

No, change your incoming mail server only!! Your outgoing will remain the same. Netmail does not have an outgoing mail server, it is only an incoming. If you change your outgoing to netmail.home.com, you will not be able to send email. Leave it as mail unless you are running a router, then use your subdomain with the word mail.

Hmmm, I have static ip addresses for both of them right now (incoming and outgoing). Should I just keep them?

Now I am unsure, hehe. Atleast I have options. Thanks everyone.

You can use either the netmail.home.com (it will work for both incoming/outgoing) or, with the headend you are being fed out of, you can use mail.lwrnc1.in.home.com for both the incoming/outgoing mail servers...

Yahoo.com has been around a long time. You get web mail plus it is POP3 and SMTP compatable. works great.
