Roadrunner question

Post by Vic Mackey »

Can someone tell me the correct RWIN setting for 5MB down roadrunner? cablenut stops at 3500. thanks

TCP options string = 020405b40103030301010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 448512
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 3 bits (scale factor of 6)
Unscaled Receive Window = 56064

For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 17940.48 kbps (2242.56 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 7176.192 kbps (897.024 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 53 hops

TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000 (0)

I'd use RWIN of 256960. If you really feel adventurous, you can try 513920. The higher number causes routers to hold more data for you, which in turn might cause them to drop packets when congested, increasing retransmissions/packet loss on highly-congested lines. 5Mbit line will not normally be able to fill that high RWIN. Still, you can try and see how you like it.

256960 should be more than sufficient to fill a 5Mbit pipe. Also, the unscaled RWIN value will remain high (64240) and multiple of MSS, as opposed to 56064 in your case.

I hope this helps.

In the Optimizer:

- select your advertised speed (5Mbps, or 5000Kbps) in the connection speed slider
- choose the correct Network Adapter (or choose to modify all)
- choose the "optimal settings" radio button
- click "Apply changes" and reboot when prompted.

Our recommended appropriate settings are shown in their respective fields when you chose the "optimal settings" radio button.

I hope this helps
