Dead system, any thing you can think of to get this comp working?

Post by drdoug99 »

Ok...so my friends computer needs a monitor. I take it to work with me, (one of my jobs is a part time PC tech at a small computer store) and test a monitor and it works great. The computer is very dirty, so I blow it out with the air compressor.

When I get home, I hook it up at my friends house, and the computer gets the IBM boot logo screen, but that's it. (I gave my friend my old IBM aptiva that i've had for 7-8 years now) No beeps or anything, just the IBM logo.

So I take out the RAM, reseat the RAM, hard drive cables, it does the same thing. I take out the cmos battery for a while, replace it, it does the same thing. Yet the computer was working fine before I took it to work and blew it out... :(

So i feel very stupid, since I am supposed to know about computers, and I just make things worse...any help would be helpful... :D

Go ito the bios setup and disable the splash screen logo.

When you boot it, wait until an error message shows up, it may be a while, but wait. Post the error mesage.

Could also try reseating the video card.

Ok what was the PSI on this air compressor?? LOL I mean did you really use a powered air compressor to clean it off or a can of airduster?? If you used a high powered compressor its possible you blew something off the mobo that shouldn't have been blown off :D

yea i used a craftsman air compressor...

well it seems to be something hard drive related...as when i remove the hard drives, i can then access the bios, and the computer works like normal...except without hard drives of course it is of no use. :D

once i connect the hard drives back, i get the same thing, just the boot logo screen....no pressing of keys does anything.

i'll try to work with it more tomorrow and see what i can do.

Well again I feel very certain you blew something off.. you shouldn't use a compressor to blow them things off.. reason they make them small cans of air lol... I'd be lookin for a jumper missing or something removable on the board itself.
