Any ideas on getting this router to work?
I just switched ISPs due to a move. The modem they sent only has one port and I need to connect at least 3 comps. I have an Actiontec wireless gateway with 4 ports. I used it just a week ago in the old home and know it works. The modem provided w/ new service is a netopia. I'd like to figure (or someone else figure out and tell me) how to use old modem with new service. With the new modem I plug in and it works. I've hooked up old and nothing. I've made a connection and tried to connect and still nothing. ISP (centurytel) says that they're not familiar with the Actiontec modems but that any modem supporting PPoE should work. Any ideas or information on getting this to work?

If you've switched ISPs, the type of DSL probably changed, or if both were/are PPPOE, you'd at least need to change the username and password on the WAN setup...configure it with the new one your new ISP configured for you.
It's a matter of logging into the web administration utility, knowing the password to log into that (I don't know what your old ISP set that to, often the serial number which may be on a sticker on the bottom of the unit). Then change your PPPoE setup info. The IP of the device itself can be found by running an IPCONFIG /ALL and looking at whatever IP it says for the gateway and dhcp server.
However, Netopia..nice....between the two I'd certainly take the Netopia hands down...I've had a few of those and love them. Rock stable, and fast. 3500 series?

It is my understanding that they are both PPPOE. I've created a connection for the new account but it doesn't connect with the old router- just the new one. I'm not sure what I would need to change in there to make a difference. I have the ip# (which you were right- was on the bottom of the modem) to the old router that I want to use but it wont connect with the new modem and since I can't connect at all period w/ old , it won't pull up the page with it either. I didn't fully understand what you were saying and probably missed something or did something wrong? If it's not too much trouble could you walk me through it in numbered steps? I'm not sure if it makes a difference but the way I connect right now is having "local area connection" Broadcom 440X.. enabled and then connecting to ISP through another connection under "broadband.
The modem is a 3341. I will be connecting three computers to the modem and was easily able to do it with old just by plugging in. Also, I was able to connect my fax machine right intoit. This one only has one ethernet, and one usb.

May be the New modem is a Modem/Router Combo.
If this is the case you need to use your old Router as a Switch with an Access Point.
