i just got on and lookin around now.. but as I said once before it may take a while to seed that server and you need 10people to get the thing going..anytime it falls below 10 it resets the damn map.

Maybe form a clan and start doing matches? Something. Otherwise there is no reason to join when you could go online and join a 32 person map 24/7.

Well Shaggy if you are interested in clan play i'm sure |D| wouldn't mind havin ya.. I play with em from time to time and they play a little each night.

Last time I checked, the sg server and people surrounding died and were buried a long time ago. Still not a bad place to check for updates and new games and such, but for the most part, sg being a gaming community, you can forget about it. We're even lucky enuff to have a ranked server in BF2 and nobody bothers with it.

Move along, there's nothing to see here. lol

when the mods start comming out I'm sure we can get a good one on the sg regular server and it will run good.

Sito brings up a good point and reminded me about the server. I was going to start up another thread asking this question....this thread is as good as any..

What do we want to do with the server? UOD put in a lot of good money/ time for getting the parts, ect. Cat has put in a lot of good money/time into the server as well. Im pretty sure the last few months we haven't touched the financial monthly goal for the server. Do we want to pull the plug on it? I actually think we should. Nobody uses it anymore and with Baghdaddy financing two other BF2 servers...it's not like we use those even.

Alot of SG members are either with |D| or |ZB| and are currently financing their own servers as well. Very hard to find time to play on both...hard for me to play on one half the time, haha.

What do you all think we should do?

I'm for dropping the main server...I gave up when too many SG regulars went over to |D|. Last month we actually fell short until UOD sent in another C note to cover it....and that took a few days to process through my bank then settle into PayPal to become available. Next month I know we'll fall short, and with my current impending divorce and home front situation..I can't afford to toss in cabbage anymore, not am I home much at night to play anyways. So I dunno what to do....the physical server belongs to UOD, the OS and antivirus are mine which I'll need to wipe clean because that's my license, cost around 47 bucks to ship the server to wherever...

I tried early on when BF2 was first released..there were times when i was there and then other joined etc... then we'd seed to get it going then it would become virtually unplayable ...I check the SG daily ...I can only play from around 8:30pm to around midnight on long stretches but usually 9-11pm at night ..too late for |D| guys also so i don't even get to play with them..

ScottE, Meggie, Blisster and a few others usually catch each other on other servers only because well the SG isn't populated.....I feel bad for UOD and YoSC and I do appreciate your efforts

my thoughts for the server..

drop it a 32 man ...40 at most

cut the players needed to start a game to and even number like 6

1x map each round ...meh maybe 2

other than that ..i dunno ..

Believe me when i say i'd rather play there than anywhere simply because I ping in the teens on the SG server vs anywhere else

Tough call. Is there another forum we could team up with? Sounds like a long shot. I say drop it to 32 and use medium/small maps. My filter is set to medium maps only. Large maps are annoying to me, especially when your the commander!!!

You'll usually find me on a Karkand 24/7 server.

Im still trying to find a good server with some good regulars on it.. had one server last night that I was having a blast in, commander was doing a great job to, watching his squad leaders like a hawk. forgot what map it was but I was sittin on top of a giant storage tank and this guy tells me to turn around and watch my 6 for 2 incomming guys lookin to take me out.. (I was AT and popin tanks from above so i think they were a bit peaved at me, that and i was killin snipers that got on the other tanks) I was layin in wait for them and he told me exactly where they were, pop pop, they died and I went back to tank killin. Problem is.. BF2 Crashed on me before i got a chance to add it to my favs.. maybe I'll stumble upon it again tonight.

was on the SG server last night practicing plane and helo controls.. no one joined but was good practice to fly with minimal lag..

Which server are you all referring too? About changing some of the settings. Remember, we currently have THREE servers.

UOD's and Cat's....located in Chicago
-Speedguide 8x8 ONLY

Baghdaddy's two, which are hosted by VSK.
-Speedguide.net <Ranked> (A ranked server that lays empty

)
-Young Speedguide.net BF2 (non-ranked 64 player server that is full all the time and is one of the most popular BF2 servers in the world!)

Cat,

I think we should drop the original server. Get in touch with Evan and see what his opinion is on the subject. It's not right that he shell's out big bucks to keep an empty server up and running. I'll make a $20 contribution so that we can get the server shipped to whoever need's it first. I guess that would be up to you and Evan on how you want to handle that.

I'd play, but ive tried numerous times and either no one comes or there isnt enough people and the idea dies, I dont like any of our guys shelling out money for no reason either. Wish are folk wouldnt go to some other place and instead play with US...

The prob with trying to populate a server is that you need 10players to get it started.. the second the count falls below 10 you have the map ending and the server resetting to wait on another 10th person. Biggest thing people are going to look for in a Ranked server is LOW ping and darn good latency so they won't lag. You could call it SlappyServerRanked and nobody would care as long as it played good and that draws people.. the issue with the VSK ranked we have going is that its got a decent ping however the latency is awful and lags alot.. gets choppy as hell once you really push up around 32players.. And the fact that people know this and that VSK isn't a very good hosting provider.

Back in for a little bit over here and catching up on somethings.

Read this post, and just noticed that myself BajaBoy.

Young SpeedGuide.Net is;
1.0.2442.0

and

SpeedGuide.Net Ranked is;
1.1.2484.0

Does anybody have any friends at EA to ask questions about this? I will try to get an email out to them and have them look at both servers again if EA will.

I honestly do not know why the Ranked server is not going as good as the un-ranked. Hopefully i will be in all this week and will get the problem resolved one way or the other.

Sito, i have never got a reply back from that webhosting you recommended, i have stopped payment to them. You know of another good hosting company?

I'll have a look around tomorrow er later today and get back to ya. I'd recommend the one I use but they can be or have been lousy at times in the past, plus their based out of Canada and I figure you'd want one closer to home. I'll be in touch.

Also, did you check your bulk mail for their reply? Just stating the obvious just in case.

EA has a site up for a list of all game hosting locations.. I can't remember it exactly but I think its linked off there main BF2 site.

That is why i put on my other dedicated box the un-ranked 64 man server, so that if SG wanted to start joining BF2 leagues they could recruit from it and the Ranked server. Plus use the 64 man un-ranked server for matches if needed.

I agree with you EA's rankings are BS, they did not fully test it before releasing the game. As my honest opinion is that there are collisions with the ranked data being sent to EA and with the clients connected to the box. As both dedicated boxes are identical, except the un-ranked server i upped the memory and proc due to 6 other games being hosted on it.

Mods can you put a poll up asking what everybody wants to do with the Ranked server.

If i could remember how i dropped the player limit to 50 i would drop it down to 32 and see if it would populate. Guess i will get me a case of beer, drink it so that i can remember how to change the player limit

to 32.

We already have the SG unranked server,(the one me and Cat own and manage) one of which a few of us are still paying for each month. And that server will be for mods as I've said from day one.

You best check your facts before you go on a childish hizzy fit like this. But frankly, I'm sick of having to explain things over and over to people who refuse to read.

We have always maintained an unranked server....from day 1. We have always had a SG server since the days of BF 1942...which ran into Desert Combat and then to BFV and then to PoE and now BF2. So when people ask about a SG unranked server, the fact is, there already is one...and always has been. Why Bajaboy is asking this...I have no clue. Teh SG unranked server is waiting for mods, which again, I stated way back that that was it's intended purpose being that we could not run a ranked server due to the costs and EA's fubared policy.

The costs of running a ranked server have now changed. I'm paying $9.95 a month for a 32 man server which I chose to run as a 16 because of the fun factor involved in 16 player maps as well as zero lag issues.

So to make it perfectly ****ing clear to you:

Only reason i have expressed my opinion on this UOD is cause i was under the impression the SG UNRANKED server owned by you had been shut down or was being used by |D| . So dont drag me into this ****....I just felt bad at all the $$$ BD had spent on a server nobody plays in.Were going through the same problem at |ZB| . Cant get 2 F'ing members to play on it at the same time!!!!

See, that's the difference here....SG is more about friendships than trying to make some laggy server #1 in the world. We play because we like eachother's company and we like to game. So BD...you're are stepping into a situation you have no ****ing clue about.
