How long does it take you to fall asleep?

Post by mmione »

I find myself lying in bed for hours, till 3-4 in the morning. I've always had a problem sleeping ever since I was a kid. How long does it take you to fall asleep?

Depends on my mood and tiredness. If i'm real tired, within 15 minutes. On average I guess about 30 minutes. If i'm excited about something the next day or nervous or anxious it could take hours, and I hate those nights.

if i try to go to sleep when i'm not really tired, it takes over an hour usually. if i'm tired and definately ready for bed though, not usually more than 5 minutes.

i'm with mmione...take me a while and i've always had sleeping issues since i was a kid. That's one advantage of working nights, i have a more flexible sleep schedule so there's no pressure or anxiety about not being able to go to sleep quickly. i usually wait till my eyes are sandpapery and then i can crash. I'm also a very light sleeper and can wake at the slightest noise or disruption....i hardly ever dream.

Within 2 minutes of sitting watching TV in the lounge I am history. Out like a light.

It really depends, often I cannot even lay down until I am exhausted so I stay awake and work or surf here... ;)

Once I get into bed I usually fall asleep very quickly.

3-5 Minutes. I used to have the same problem , laying in bed until 3-4 AM praying for just 4 then 3 then 2 hours of sleep before work.

I noticed that the minute I decide" To hell with it , I'll just stay up and lay here and rest my eyes " I was out. The anxiety and stress of TRYING To sleep made it worse. If I go on about hinking about my day , or recalling everything that happened through the day , it would take me out faster and I'm not focused on it.

It is said that the average person falls asleep within 7 minutes of laying down. That you should never do ANYTHING in bed but sleep , Don't watch T.V. , Read , eat , Anything at all that your body and mind might associate with activity rather than sleep ( except with the misses of course ;) ).

Also if you haven't slept within the first 30 minutes to get up , Do something else for 30 minutes then return.

Do not eat 4 hours prior to bed or Drink within the last hour before bed as the increase in your digestive activity causes increased heart rate and more trouble sleeping.

No coffee or Caffiene after 2 P.M.

Just things I read when I was struggling with sleep. ( I was also being kept awake by a 3rd party substance at the time that is totally legel but was not healthy for me.

Recently if after say 11:30 P.M. I can pass righ tout , If before that I usually Read for a bit in bed with dim light while laying down and I get sleepy pretty fast.

It depends. If I have alot on my mind, then awhile.

If I'm on any drugs then I can fall asleep within minutes.

I've never timed it cause....when I finally fall asleep, I can't check the time cause I be sleeping. Is there a way to time yerself?

But, insomnia is a drag especially when you got to work the next day.

i used to have the same problem, did what u suggested here. Worked great. Im really against electronics in my bedroom, like tvs and stereos and stuff.. I specifically got a clock radio that didnt have bright numbers in the dark and everything. Now when i go into my room i get tired, even if ive gotten enough sleep. Your body starts associating the room with sleep so its a lot easier to. Also ive noticed that if your room smells calming like i love the smell of baby powder, so i have baby powder candles and stuff.. puts me right to sleep when i smell it. One last trick i learned is white noise, have a small fan running, not necessarily at you, but in your room.. the noise helps u drone out all the other little noises in your house.

hope it helps.

it depends on what I have done that evening,

have I taken a nap early?

did I drink alcohol ?

what did I eat?

it's all related,

also

as we grow older our bodies produce less melatonin, which is the bodies natural sleeping pill, we produce tons of it when we are younger, thats why teenagers can sleep til 2 pm! LOL

I have always been a light sleeper and can't fall asleep without a tv on,

but,

I take 3mg of melatonin a few minutes before I want to go to sleep and it helps me go to sleep fast and mostly sleep through the night better, the stuff is natural and really works.
