Leafs Sign Lindros: They have Finally Hit Rock Bottom

Post by minir »

Hi to All

Well that does it. When they have to pick up a Guy that shouldn't even be Playing, it pretty much says it all. 10 Concussions so far and still at it. What the heck are they thinking!

I guess they feel he will be a draw and he comes cheap. Sad, sad, sad.

On paper this Team has nothing. What a woeful Season this will be.

Ferguson Sucks as a GM. He was totally unprepared for this Salary Cap & it shows.

I can't believe anybody would touch that guy with a 10ft pole... The Leafs are definately not in good shape this year. :( ... and the Wings don't even play against the Leafs

I am glad the Red Wings have done a so-so job retaining players and acquiring Osgood back. They need to sign/resign a few more people and I will be pretty happy. Looks like we should have some solid goaltending between Legacy and Osgood - no matter who the starter is or if they alternate.

Still not sure how the season will play out... might go to a game or 2, but probably not many since they are already providing crappy reasons for ticket prices not dropping....

Hi AAF Striker

You'll notice how they conveniently overlooked the Concussions in their Press Release for Lindros' Signing :rotfl:

I've disliked this cretin since he came into the League and nothing has happened to change my opinion. I won't be watching too many Leafs Games this year i don't think.

The Wings are doing okay it seems, but Philly and Ottawa may be the ones to watch.

The Leafs have offered a 5% reduction in Ticket Prices :rotfl: They might just as well have said there will be a Free Pop each night. What a joke. A lousy Team at Premium Prices.

The NHL is really in trouble imho.

Luck to the Wings this Season AAF Striker :thumb:

Sorry, I believe the Wings offered 5% back in "Joe bucks" .... so I guess that $8 beer will be like $7.60 now :rotfl: I guess I can't say they didn't do anything.... but when in reality, they have done nothing.... lol

Philly definately is one to watch out for, they made a lot of good moves, not quite sure how they managed to pull some of them out...

The Wings might do good, they might fall back to the Dead Wings era, but it is hard to say, just have to wait and see how they come together and to see if the new rules open things up, which I am not sure it will...

I havent read anything in this thread because I want to believe its not Eric Lindros, and that its a different Lindros that will be a team player, not delay injuries, and care about the game.

Hi AAF Striker & YoS

Say It Ain't So Joe! That once far away cry seems to echo here as well. Unfortunately.

It's He + Mom & Dad to Help Guide the Leafs to Victory

-----

AAF Striker
I don't think it will open up the Game either in all honesty. The Scoring should go up but that's about it i think. If the Refs Blow on the Whistle too much, the Game will slow to a crawl and become even more boring.

Me, i still think Heavy Fines to Ownership & Coaching Staff was the way to go to eliminate the Trap and thereby open up the Game. No Player wants to play the Trap, much preferring a wide open Game. Its the Ownership and coaching that force the Players to do so, so penalize them and put a stop to it.

--

YoS
I Too mourn this acquisition :(

--

Well off to Bed to try to sleep once again. This Announcement has me spinning like a Top in bed and i can't sleep because of that fool.

--

Thanks Guys, see ya in the morning. well later :D

Well minir, I don't know what to say about this one.

Read a quote on Sportsnet "I still have a lot to give," he said, adding: "I'm really working at stickhandling with my head up."
Wait you're just working on that now? You're 1 medium hit away from a grey matter slushi.

Not a very good signing but I'm still loocking forward to next season.

The leafs dropping ticket prices 5%? Well, They would have to get bad....80's bad before tickets went any lower. Why would they? It is sold out everynight.

Who knows?

Have a good one minir! :)

Hi Minir,

I have to say I am so glad to see NY finally get rid of him....i never understood why they went after him to begin with..what boneheaded move for the rangers...now even worst for the leafs.

I never will forget when Eric Lindros first came into the NHL and the big stink he made where he wanted to play and then the arbitration NY rangers were trying their best to get him what a mess that was.

It really a shame if it werent for all those concussions he was a superb player

Good Morning Jarngrimr

I'm not too sure that Humpty Dumpty can take them anywhere either. I simply detest him and his Parents for the way they have treated the Game from day 1. At least his Brother had enough sense to take the money and run when his concussions became an obvious problem.

The 5% was as you say unnecessary, as its Sold Out every night, but that may not last forever either Jarngrimr. Corporations are tightening their belts as well and unless their Customers are chomping at the bit to see a great Team at work, then why bother. A lot of dissatisfaction over the Bettman Lockout exists.

I'm not looking forward to this Season at all, as I've endured too many lackluster Seasons in the past. They could and should have done better, much better imho at putting a contending Team on the ice. This is not one imho. The Ticket Purchasers deserve it, as does the City of Toronto and Canada as a whole. Like it or lump it its still Canada's Team, though that is changing as well i fear. :(

Thanks Jarngrimr & have a fantastic day :)

Good morning sito & Ghosthunter

sito
Never happen sito. No room then for Ego Expansion :D

--

Ghosthunter
All he & His Family had to do was go to Quebec and Play, while quietly asking for a Trade ASAP. No one would have been embarrised and everyone would have come out okay from the Trade. Hockey would not have suffered the black eye that it did either. Arrogance!

He was Big & Talented so he never learned to keep his head up as he didn't have to, until the NHL that is where he was facing Men that didn't give a damn what was written on the back of the Jersey. Too late then to relearn the Game and he became a Target.

Yep! Talented & Ego driven, never a good mix imho.

I simply don't know how Ferguson can justify tying up limited resources in a gamble like he is. Lousy Managerial decision imho.

Thanks Guys and have yourselves a terrific day :)

He was always a marshmallow headed skating chimpanzee. You may include a bad luck charm as well. I am certain Toronto could better have spent the money reducing beer prices.

Hi nepenthe

I wholeheartedly agree with your response David. I cannot for the life of me understand the thinking behind this move by the Leafs.

I do not think they really understand how much this Guy is disliked by the majority of people. Hockey Fans or not.

I saw a Poll in the Sun today and though i can't quote it exactly, it was something in the order of

--

Are you happy that the Leafs signed Eric Lindros?

Yes, he's the real deal...23%

No, he's damaged goods...32%

Who cares?...45%

This is what some of the most loyal Hockey Fans in the world think of the move.

As you say David, Cheaper Beer would have gotten a much better reception. :rotfl:

Thanks and have a grand day David :)

Eric Lindros enjoys a day at the links.

Toronto Maple Leaf, Eric Lindros sure
does enjoy a good round of golf on a
sunny day. He has been quoted as
saying that he can not wait to play
again next May with all his new friends
in Toronto.

HHAAHAAAHAA, sounds like the rest of him should too.

I remember when he refused to sign with Quebec (I think it was Quebec) and they traded the rights to him to the Flyers. Man, that doesn't seem like 10 headaches ago. Times flying

I have always disliked lindros I remember he was playing for team canada and he could have had a breakaway had he looked down at the puck which was passed into his skates. He is oblivous to his environment. THE ONE TIME THIS GOON DOESNT PUT HIS HEAD DOWN!. :rtfm:

I was going to post a link to that thread, but the SG search results for "bullsh|t" were too numerous

Hi Jarngrimr

They can at least use Belak in a dual role and he will go if needed. They actually need a couple more like him imho.

I smell Trades Jarngrimr. The only way they can salvage this mess is to deal a couple of Defencemen, like the gutless Kaberle and possibly McCabe, to lessen the payroll and get some size back their and some more grit as well. I at least hope somewhere is hidden the Master Plan that will save this season from the total disaster that it now appears to be.

Thanks Jarngrimr and lets hope :(

Markov and Smith sure would look nice on our defense. We should try to aquire them. Oh that's right, we had them. According to the Leafs management, a full house always wins.
