print & file sharing

Post by dogles »

I have a linksys wrt54gs connected to my pc via ethernet cable. My laptop connects via wireless adapter. I can share the internet, but I cannot share the printer or files. I have tried the windows xp network wizard but it doesn't help. Any suggestions?

Have you check the XP firewall to make sure "File and Printer Sharing" is checked off?

Have you checked the properties, (right clicked on them), of the printer and the files you want to share and made sure you have then shared?

Regarding the printer, did you use the "Add Printer" feature in "Printers and Faxes" in the control panel and install it on the notebook as a networked printer?

If you did, did you also select it as your default printer so that it will automatically chose that printer when you go to print something?

Thanks I did add the printer, but what I failed to do was load the drivers for the shared printer onto the new laptop. Once I did that it worked fine. One thing I don't understand is when I try to print using the printer icon in the browser it doesn't work. I have go to file and then select print

Is it selected as your default printer?

I have my networked printer selected as my default and it works just fine.
