Wireless connection drops when downloading/uploading large files over period of time
If I have a BitTorrent client, SoulSeek (P2P Program), or even sending large files (like music albums) over AIM, my wireless connection drops. Whether on DHCP or static, it does not matter. I am then forced to restart (XP Home SP2), it starts up fine. No connection problems when not sending/receiving files over a period of time.

I own a Medion MD41300 laptop and my problem is identical. I've been searching for solutions for over a year now (firmware, drivers, nodetype.....) and I've been in communication with the tech-support of US-robotics (I use a wireless router USR805054) for several months now. And still it does that same thing... But we are not alone... and I'm beginning to believe it's WinXP related.

Think about "market share" in the "do it yourselfers" area...due to being sold at Radio Shack and other chain stores. If 60% of the market share in this demographic is held by Linksys...and the remaining 40% is split up amongst other brands...and figure you'll get nearly 1/3 of the do it yourselfers having issues with each brand..naturally you'll see many more complaints from Linksys owners..because 1/3 of 60% is a larger number than 1/3 of say...15% or so. I quite honestly think that issues are fairly even across the board of brands. Plus it's always the entry level models being sold at these chain stores, not the better models.
I think I'm probably past 500 units as far as the number of Linksys routers I've installed. I can honestly say...I think I've only replaced 3...maybe 4. I've without question replaced more DLink, SMC, Assante, and Belkin routers than that (and I didn't replace them with same brand). I will admit that DLink has gotten better over the past year..then they were. And I actually had my first positive experience with Belkin just a couple of weeks ago with those Pre-N units. Eons ago I installed what was probably one of the first hundred Etherfast routers to roll off the assembly line. It was during the maturation period of PPPoE settling down with ISPs...that Linksys support had be go to Speedguide.Net to download the MTU and vtcp.386 patch for Windows 98...to help with an e-mail issue. That was the first time I came to this site.
And it's not like I'm not familiar with other quality brands either...I install/support/deal with Cisco PIXs, Sonicwalls, Netopia/Caymans, Compex, Efficients, Westells, Symantec (and the older Nexlands), Netgears, recently Belkin. Currently at home I have a Netopia, Linksys, Netgear, Nexland, and every few months I'll run some unit for a week before installing just to get familiar with them (like a month ago I was using an awesome new RV082 from Linksys/Cisco)

Linksys
The only problem that ive had with Linksys is their lack of customer service. the incomming logging feature of my WRT54G does not/has not ever functioned. every responce I received from Linksys was unrelated to my problem and were all copied and pasted answers from their on line FAQ'S. After not resolving my problem or answering any questions they stopped responding and sent a performance survey.
