General discussion related to Cable Modems, DSL, Wireless, Fiber, Mobile Networks, Wireless ISPs, Satellite, or any other type of high-speed Internet connection, general issues and questions here. Review and discuss ISPs as well (AT&T / SBC, BellSouth, Bright House, CableOne, Charter, Comcast, Covad, Cox, Cablevision / Optimum Online, TMobile, Verizon FIOS, Shaw, Telus, Starlink, etc.)
I just did a fresh install of Win 2k and I have the most current drivers for the system all the way around. ACPI is enabled and the soundcard and NIC are sharing IRQ 9.
I was listening to MP3's and downloading some at the same time (pushing the modem very hard) and randomly the system will studder and it last about 2 secs and then continues to go about its business... Wouldnt bother me except for the fact that it does it quite often.
Does the same thing during all my online games... Causes frags that I shouldnt be giving up
So your thought and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
BTW it NEVER did this in 98SE...

How fast are you downloading?
<Some NICs are very inefficient at processing data at a high rate, causing the NIC to use a lot of cpu overhead.>
Also, Windows2000 has a lot of "backround processes" that start and stop every so often which would cause your processor to be in use which would cause the lockups.
When it starts to happen see what processes (if any) are chewing up all your cpu power <CTRL+ALT+DEL->Task Manager->Processes>.
I'm guessing its your NIC + CPU not being able to handle all the incoming data.
I will check that, but what type of percentage spikes am I looking for? It makes sense what you are saying, but lets say I find that it is an inefficient network card, will another help or is it going to be a Win2k problem?
