Can someone please explain to me what ICMP packets are? I was using visual route when I noticed it. Thank you

As far as I know, ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) is just a protocol that is used between a computer and a gateway (usually a router?). That's about all I know about it. I'm sure Kip can give u a better answer. :) Kip, where r u?

Visual Route and all the other tracing programs use ICMP packets to do their work. Take a look at:
