PPPoE client software perforance
Is there a performance difference between the different PPPoE client software. Things like more stable connection or better pings, is there any gain at all. Is the software just used to connected to the server. I ask cause some are free and others you got to pay for.

Yes I found the different software to all connect different and all of them have a issue with speed or connectivity
I have a PPPoE from Mindspring and by Default they use Enternet 100 while this is good enough for the average Mindspring user it just didn't have enough control for me.
I used RASPPPoE and ran into problems with a speed issue and ocasional freeze ups in Win98 RASPPPoE was written for Win2k and has been adabted for Win98.
So I went and tried Winpoet and ran into a real slow issue it knocked 200kbps of my connection right away I tried to re-tweak and got nothing good
I now use Enternet 300 I paid $29.00 for it but it gives me options that I didn't have with Enternet 100 and It works with all the operating systems they have it for MAC,Win95,Win98 & SE, WinME & win2k plus Linux With the amount of times that I change OS I wanted something I could use on all my systems
Good luck

I have never seen my NIC or the protocol it seems to be using mentioned in any posts here...I have USWest/Qwest DSL 640/272 and they sent me an Intel ProDSL 2100 (internal). As far as I can tell it uses ndiswan (?). I have tried all registry tweaks (and system.ini tweak) none seem to make a lick of difference except that it slows down if I increase the default RWIN much over 21000...default was 8192 I beleive. I'm not really unhappy with my actual speed (545/245) but I'm a die hard tweaker and it drives me nuts that i can't even wring a little more out of it! (i'm sure some of you understand)
Maybe it's just tapped out...The only thing I haven't tried is changing the NIC software - because I haven't seen anything pertaining to the Intel 2100. Any insight?

I got to agree with dannjr. I'm using Bell Sympatico HSE and never made an issue of the PPPoE client software till I upgraded to Windows ME. Bell's Access Manager ver 1.03 was buggy as hell and didn't work with Win ME. So I used RASPPPoE and it seemed to work fine, but I always found myself laggy in online games and always questioned my download speed. I just installed the new Accesss Manager version 1.04 (which is still in beta) and is a tweaked version of Enternet 300. What a difference it made and I can tweak the hell out of it. I can't wait for the Official version. I guess I just answered my original question.
Thx dannjr for your advice.
