new gaming rig wont run!

Post by Randy »

:(

- NIKAO X-BLADE ATX CASE
- AMD ATHLON 64 3200+ PROCESSOR S754
- ASUS K8V SE DELUXE ATHLON64 S754 DDR AGP 5PCI SATA RAID
- 2 sticks SAMSUNG 512MB PC3200 DDR400 184PIN OEM
- 480 watt ps
- geforce fx 5200

On the bootup the following error message is started in Voice error message:
"SYSTEM FAILURE DUE TO CPU OVERCLOCKING" even though I have never changed the setting in BIOS CPU brand newly installed.
Motherboard manual suggested to turn down the setting on CPU in BIOS ............. BUT
No way to get into BIOS either because Monitor is blank all the way through the boot process.

what i have tried so far:

1) one stick of ram and swapped
2) cleared CMOS 2x
3) swapped power supply
4) swapped Mobo
5) Tested CPU

Your Help much appreciated TIA, Randy

I was going to post a link to that thread, but the SG search results for "bullsh|t" were too numerous

Have you checked out your video card?

vid card works fine in other rig, but have not swapped vid cards...hmmm do you think that maybe this board is picky about the card?

yeah sounds like its "picky" as you might say... I've had a mobo work fine with a nividia card and when ya try to put a ATI in it..it never worked very odd but as put it was "picky" As far as the boot message about overclocking ya really can't tell till ya get some sort of video display going. I've seen this issue somewhere else too I'll look around and try to find it and see what the result was.

try removing all other PCI devices. sometimes its a conflict between cards on that mobo (instead of a battle between the mobo and vidcard).

have you checked for a BIOS update for the mobo?

that board must have the 1003 BIOS to recognise that processor

This is the only Samsung chip Asus shows as qualified for that board

Their should be an fsb jumper, try putting that to 100 if the mobo needs a new bios to run that chip, it should work at a lower speed if u can force it there.

Ram is supported its the samsung 512 same # etc..

I have researched this mobo and what i realize:
1) asus is good "if you can get it to run"
2) Asus had a recall on thease boards due to a bad capacitor
3) I talked to a local shop here in town and they said 7 out of the last 10 asus boards were rma'd. i still bought the beaord anyway bcz i figured that maybe he just wanted to sell me an msi board.
4) this thread http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview ... TMP=Linear

One of the features i liked was the audio posts the board can tell you if you got bad ram or vid card is poochafooed Unfortunately thease warning posts are not accurate at all.

I am going to send it back again and try all new cpu ram and mobo!
screw asus :irate:

Thx for the help chris, faust, yos and sava

any reason to not go socket 939? you'd get dual channel memory and the ability to go with a new CPU down the road if you like.
