Anyone have any luck setting up an @home account in Linux?

Post by WhiteTrashGOD »

Here's the deal. First of all, I am not a Linux Newbie, but this problem sure is making me feel like one. I recently switched from DSL (which I had no problem setting up on Linux) to ATT@Home cable service. I am having absolutely NO LUCK in getting this to work with Linux.

I am running Mandrake 7.1 with an intel 10/100 NIC. In netcfg I have entered all of the information given to me by @home (machine name, domain, dns, ip, etc.) On boot up eth0 WILL NOT init! I have tried several different variations, tried setting it up for DHCP, used DHCPCD, still NOTHING!

I am getting very frustrated here... can anyone help?

And if the DHCP way will not work for you, I put together a step-by-step helpfile a little while ago when I was still on @home network. You can get it at linuxnewbie.org.
Search for anything to do with "@home". I don't have it anymore

Try just entering the machine name (given to u by @home) and the workgroup ("@home" w/o the quotes) and enable DHCP.

Actually, I did it all right the first time. I just had the wrong driver for my NIC assigned to eth0. After I changed that, everything worked like a charm.

Sometimes with Linux, you just have to play around with stuff and double check everything. It is not an easy OS for sure, but with Linux, you either love it or hate it. To love it is to learn it.

Anyhow, thanks again.
