Do/Have You Lied About How Much You Make?

Post by Prey521 »

Do you? I caught a buddy of mines in a lie after I saw one of his paystubs in his house, it wasn't by much...he told me that he was making 55K when he was really making 51K. I started laughing and asked him about it and he told me that everyone he knows inflates their salary by a few thousand. So, do any of you guys here do that?

I used too, I was saying that i made 45K when I was really makin 40K a few jobs ago!! :rotfl:

No, but I don't talk about it normally either. I do lie on website registration et al. that require this info, always going down to the lowest category, thus becoming less interesting as a target for spam... ;) :D

Like Seed said, I try not to discuss it. If asked by someone I trust, I wouldn't lie.

I've never straight out lied, but I think most people puff themselves up a bit. If a girl asks me how much I make I'll tell her I can make around 5000 a month freelance. I won't make a huge deal over the fact that it usually winds up being less.
Funny is when a fat lady walks around while someone plays the tuba. Once you've seen that, you'll never laugh at anything else. Except maybe a skeleton dancing around while someone plays the xylophone, which is almost exactly the opposite of a fat lady walking around while someone plays the tuba. Well, a skeleton is the opposite of a fat lady. But is a xylophone the opposite of a tuba? History will decide.

Why would I need to lie about my 150K a year job?

Nah, I was in the Marines for 20+ years and there isn't any hiding your salary there! Now I work for the cable company and you don't see any Ferraris in the parking lot.

Why lie about your salary? If you're trying to impress a woman, she's going to find out the truth sooner or later, especially when she wants you to buy her something you can't afford!

Besides, if her love is based upon YOUR money, move on to the next woman.

Used to make $72,800 - $125,000 when I was consulting.
Made $9.25/hr. when the consulting gig dried up and I worked retail.
Now I make somewhere in between.

yea, but that doesn't state how much you make, just how much you have available.

as for earnings, I don't make jack squat, and I admit it.

No but neither do I share it in general conversation. If there is a real need to disclose what I make I do it correctly. :)

Nope, nor do I tell people what I make a year.

It's disgusting though when your co-workers do less then you and make more money.

But when you have an ******* for a boss, them's the brakes.
