Well Velvta you got a couple of formats with DVD media you got -R/+R which R stands for recordable then you got -RW/+RW which RW stands for re-writable....All these formats are able to fit 4.7GB on a disk (accually only 4.5)...
Now there is another format out which is DVD+R DL.... where the DL stands for double layer and is capable of storing almost twice the capacity of a regular -/+R disk at a nice 8.5GB
For a DVD-Burner you will want to look into one that is dual formated like the one you are looking at on newegg which means it can burn both +R and -R ,,, But you may want to consider a dual format / double layer burner which are around the same price you are looking to spend on that one you have in your link....
hope that helps a bit... good luck...

best way is to track down each model number and see who makes it.rivas wrote:im not dvd burner specialist but if you wanna buy good burner get Sony,Plextor or Pioneer

most sony's and pioneer burners are actually rebadged. I'm pretty sure plextor had maintained thier own brand though.

The NEC drives are the best overall DVD burners, especially with marginal media. I have the 2510 and 3500 and I have NO problems with playing the discs on any stand alone DVD player. Also there is Bios files available that let's you change the +R setting to DVD ROM so campatibility is further increased.JBKM wrote:do a search for the NEC 3500, i just got it and it ROCKS! fast and stable, not a coaster yet! its only like 70 bucks too!
