How come I can't install Office 2000?

I bought 2 laptops. One is Compaq, another is Avertech. Both came with XP Home. I tried install office 2000 to the laptops. Averetch has no problem. But Compaq XP Home doesn't let me install. It display "This CD-ROM is from an older version of windows than the one you are presently using. Stepup functionality from this disk will be disabled". Is there any place in the XP can turn someting on so I can install Office 2k?

Are both Office cd's the same version?

Sounds like it has or had another version of office on it. May have even been office 2000 spX. Something may have got left over when it was un-installed. Have a look at this office 2k eraser.

Sorry, It was my mistake. I put Windows 2000 pro disc in (that disc I misplaced in Office 2000 pro case).
