COAX Cabling

Post by Yerkel_00 »

Hey Everyone.

I am going to be networking...file and print sharing and internet sharing with my @Home cable modem. I will be using coax cable. Anyone know the price of 25 ft. of cheap coax?

Don't even bother w/coax cable anymore, use RJ45 cat 5 cable. It's the standard now.

You serious?! Your internet connection is "not working".

Yeah, that's REAL helpful. Maybe some more info?

Okay,

I am using COAX which is running just fine. I am using two standard NIC cards which are also fine. In other words, for everything other than Internet Sharing, it's working. I haved tried Internet Connection Sharing by putting it on my Celeron 533 (the one with the cable modem). However, it simply does not work. The P120 can't find any sites, or anything like that. The modem lights on the cable modem don't even light when I am looking for a site.

The IP of the LAN NIC on ur server system is 192.168.0.1, right? And the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, right? Ur client system(s)should be setup dynamically. Can u surf the net on the server system? Can the server and client(s) see each other on the LAN?

Let me see if I understand this correctly...

Line comes in, goes to cable modem. Big thick black line. That's CoAxial cable.

A second smaller line (CAT5) runs from the Cable Modem to the first computer.

There is a second NIC in the first computer with another smaller line running to the NIC in the second computer.

If that's the case, then I have one question. What software are you using for internet sharing?
