Trying to improve CATV forward path

Post by MosDef112 »

There's always been a signal strength issue with CATV to my private house, which is very apparent from watching many of the family and movie channels on my Jerrolds GE cable box (yes the old school analog box). Fortunately this hasn't affected cable Internet, as it appears that the Toshiba bridge I use isn't too sensitive to noise and signal levels, and it's also wired close enough to the first splitter so that there's not too much of a drop.

Sooo..... I was thinking of buying one of these. I noticed that while it'll give me a 15dB boost on the forward path, there's a potential 20dB loss on the return path, which is likely detrimental for the cable modem as it's already operating within marginal signal levels.

Considering that potential hurdle, I was also considering to split the drop two ways; one way for the cable boxes which would get connected to this amplifier, the other way would be left untouched and strictly for the cable modem.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
