Get rid of Norton AV and install Avast from http://www.avast.com (or AVG Antivirus if you don't like Avast).

If you don't have a router with a built in firewall, I would reccomend using Tiny Personal Firewall as your firewall protection.

Make sure to run weekly-to-monthly scans using Lavasoft Ad-Aware (or Spybot Search&Destroy).

That should help with security issues. Also make sure to patch your system, and keep checking. Monthly should do it, though if you hear of an exploit and a new patch, feel free to install earlier.

Hope this helps. :)

By ALL means get rid of it. I know I'm going to catch a bunch of crap over this but STAY AWAY from Norton AV..... it offers sub par protection. I have seen NUMEROUS times in the past week where Norton 2004 says a pc is clean and AVG 6.0 FREE finds one or more viruses/trojans. What is happening is that AVG is detecting spyware/malware as trojans, they "technically" aren't trojans but they are doing trojan like activity so they are being detected. Since they aren't "technically" trojans AVG doesn't have a specific definition to properly remove or quarantine the file in question. This is when you must manually remove the file.

Now I know you guys are going to argue with me, but Norton 2004 does have spyware removal built into it yet it is not detecting ANY of these files, so what's the point in having it?

Well I run norton 2002. And yes it is up to date and current. Plus I have trojan hunter, A2 guard, spware guard and AD-AWARE and spybot. And I have no problems. Now if you want to discuss junk antivirus programs. McAfee has got to be the worst one I have ever seen.

No arguements ]HERE[/b], then install Sygate Personal Firewall, it's FREE as well and MUCH better than ZA.

nicola, No arguments here either!!
Your gonna get fifty folks telling fifty things
mnosteele52 is correct 99% of the time
Sygate is wonderful but Outpost is better!! ;)
NAV is terrible! AVG is real good, NOD32 is better ;)
Listen to the master steele will steer you in the right direction :thumb:
I just wish I could keep him interested in Outpost for awhile
to get him to change his mind!! :D

McAfee is the way to go I've never had any probs with it.. Norton doesn't actright with alot of other things and hogs up your computer..yeah Mcafee does it some but not as much as Norton does. Add Ad-aware from lavasoft and do what YeeCat said and update from http://www.windowsupdate.com to make sure your all patched up which that will take a while since most apps require reboots.. then make sure to add a firewall Sygate is the best by far!
