Can anyone recommend me a linux distro beside Redhat, Mandrake and suse. It is mainly for running apache, php and mySql. And it must fit into my 6Gig hard disk. Thanks.

Debian,
Go here and download "bf2.4-3.0.23-mini.iso". This will install teh base system and the rest can be installed automatically over the net. It will set up your net connection automatically.
No one has any right to force data on you
and command you to believe it or else.
If it is not true for you, it isn't true.

You are trying to create a LAMP server. if you already have the php, mysql and apache, then all you need is the debian mini iso mentioned above. install that and then install your software separately.

otherwise try to find a mini distro that includes all of the above and not much else.

Try Linux from Scratch (http://www.linuxfromscratch.org) -- It's fairly good, and REALLY small.
So trade that typical for something colorful, and if it's crazy live a little crazy!

linux from scratch is good if you have about a week to install everything :thumb:

you will learn a lot about how a linux system works.

Amen on the week thing. Though now, after having done it about 12 times, I can do it in under 24 hours with a decently fast computer. *GRIN*

You just need a lot of time and patience to do it.

Thats the key, thats where I normally give up at.

Main reason why all my servers are Windows based. (2000 Server, 2003 Web Edition / Standard).

Check out http://www.tinysofa.org/ , I've heard good things about it.
