adsl with PPPoA connection
running win98se, with a PPPoA connection, 1.5 down and 256 up. all tweaks i see, (dannjr/cablenut combo, as well as speedguides)are for PPPoE connections. my understanding is that due to "throughput" i should only see 85% of my connection speed. at present i am seeing exactly that. when i had cable, i used several tweaks at different times and never saw even the smallest increase. i guess i have 2 questions. first, do the tweaks listed for PPPoE, also for use by those of us with PPPoA? and second, which tweak is better, the dannjr/cablenut combo or speedguide's? people here were an enormus help with my cable connection, i hope the same is true now that i have adsl. thanks in advance to all.
First the speedguide tweaks are very good tweaks. They're the basis on the cablenut tweak and the ones at microsyspro. If it wasn't for speedguide they would probably not exsist the way they are today. Probably be paying for one of them programs..
The tweaks that I support are built around ADSL I have some that work well for cable also.Because I had cable at one time but cable here stinks. I have also worked with cablenut for the past few months redeveloping the tweaks the way we know them, based on information from all of you..
Your ATM connection still starts out as ethernet so you can still use the basic tweaks. With the ATM your Rwin can probably be larger because the PPPoA is more direct then the PPPoE. But still based on the same. PPPoE utilizes ATM.
Now with this all said, all connection are differnt if you used cablenut.exe and it works well you still may have to make some adjustments.. Just because we don't use MaxMTU in the program because we have "PMTU-Discovery on". This doen't mean you can't get good results by leaving the settings from that program alone and adding MaxMTU and setting it to 1424 Iv seen it fly this way on this type of connection or even 1436.
It all comes down to one thing.. Not all connections are the same.
So you may have to still do some adjustments.
Let me know your final out come. There are more PPPoA's showing up as of late and I would like to know your outcome if possible.
Thanks Dan
