Stronger signal with wireless?
I have a Linksys befw11s4 and it works fine, but I have a computer in the computer room that loses signal every once in a while. Actually quite a bit and I don't get very fast transfer speeds between the two when trying to move files. The internet works at full speed but the files don't transfer quite as quick. I've gotten the firmware and installed it. The walls here in germany are solid brick with drywall over them so my question is....is there any way to boost the signal coming from the router or the pc card. Thanks.
Your options are limited,
1. See if you can either move the PC or Router closer.
2. Look for hacked Linksys firmware which will allow yout to set a higher output power. (I must add that violates FCC rules)
3. Buy external antennas for your router. Doing some searching with Google will find you tons of places to buy WiFi antennas.

As mentioned above, moving them around, location wise. 11 megs tops isn't a bottleneck when it comes to internet, but as you noticed, when transferring files it is. Realistically you're probably getting around 2 megs..which hampers local file transfers, but still doesn't hamper internet which is most likely below 1.5 megs anyways.
I have found "G" wireless to be better than "B", especially when doing "LAN stuff". On paper, performance is up to 54 megs, in real life, in the teens to twenties. And range seems to be better. Linksys is also coming out with a range extender for G soon...a repeater.
I also prefer using external USB adapters for computers, when it comes to wireless...because you can locate that higher up on your desk, move it around to play with trying to get a better signal.
