what do you guys think about napster?

Post by heero »

with the recent filter to block copyrighted musics, on yahoo said 50% of file sharing has dropped. i think this is good because now people will know music is bad to leech off of unless you are l33t (j/k).

now i use winmx, which is kinda like napster, with easy interface. there is too many people who think getting mp3s is just search, click, and download. back in the days you had to search your ass off, ftp, ad filled web sites with porn ads (which i do not appreciate...)

i heard from another forum that they should make a "l33t" program only for comp ppl, which is a little hard to use. that way, people who want the music will actually have to READ or LEARN how it's done. i say shut down napster! so the many wasted bandwith be saved for the "real" people. then all the sheep (clueless computer iliterate) can buy CDs, while we get them off other sources.

but... there are loopholes. some guy can leak it out, get big, and write those FAQ's, or write up some easier gui for them.

thanks for reading this. now that napsters gone, im starting to dl faster, and get better ping! whoo!
"sucking at cs isnt so bad, i mean i was the best at q2 railium, and now im losing at last place."

yeah Napster blows......
I use other ways I cannot discuss in this public forum to get my mp3s
:D :D :D

screw all you guys with cable modems....
try using a Cable Modem for 3 months and going back to dialup
oh well....life's a bitch.

Besides If one is too dumb to use anything else other than Napster they don't deserve being able to get mp3s or whatever.. :D
That is only for l33t ppls.

Personally, i don't have any problems finding music from alternative sources, but what is wrong with getting music quickly and easily? Besides the little copyright issue. ;)
It's like saying you would rather use dos than windows.
On the issue of bandwidth, sure Napster may eat up some but unless cable companies increase bandwidth, we are going to encounter the same problems even without Napster as more and more people start using highspeed connections. Wait till every kid in China decides they want to play Quake3 online!

Thats ok, at least they wont be on my node :D

Started a thread like this yesterday too, must be long gone now. Anyhow said the same thing, cept for I had proof. Napster was down until 9, until 9 my ping in Q3 was 50. Napster back at 9, 9:15 ping was 150-200.

Also before the Rush of "OMG NAPSTER IS GOING DOWN, COURT RULED AGAINST THEM" My pings were fairly stable, I would see a about a 20 ms hike in the peak times, but i can live with that. Soon as the court ruled against them, my ping in peak times is from 200-400. Cause everybody trying to leach every single peice of music that is on napster. Heard of one guy with like 374 dloads goin, the day they had announced that the court had ruled against them.

Again I like napster, but it feels like 60% of my node is running full blown High capacity FTP servers with the latest new movies. Both up and down are clogged to hell. So, I for one will wait diligently for napster to go pay/shut its doors. Not that I hate em, I just hate what they do to my bandwidth.

Isn't this starting to sound like using Napster as a scapegoat for bad connections? "It's napsters fault that my net connection is slow."

Furthermore, as it was mentioned earlier on that someone should make an mp3 searching program hard so that "only l33t people can use it" isn't exactly the "l33t3st" idea. Even the hardest mp3 file searching program won't exactly be that difficult to use - these programs are only as good as the amount of people on them. The reason Napster did so well was because it was easy, theremore more people went on it, therefore more mp3's. If you make a hard program and make it hard to get, only a few people will use it and that means fewer mp3's. "Wow, I'm using a program that is hard to others, so I must be "l33t". Oh wait, there are only 5 other people on it with me."

Sidenote: if you are truely "l33t", you won't need to call yourself "l33t" and have to try and prove it. It would be proven on its own.

I am not using it as an excuse, I feel that I know. It would be different if it happened all the time, but it doesnt. Peak times, ping goes crazy. Napster was down in peak time the other night, Ping was fine. Late late night, ping is fine. Early morning through mid day ping is fine. Actually everything was ok till napster said they were ruled against, then it went nuts. What else can i contribute it too?? Lag starts at the third hop out. So how is that an excuse. Will have further observations when napster goes pay/down for count. :D
