What happened?

Post by blacklab »

Earlier today I posted what I thought was an innocent funny. I got an e-mail indicating someone had replied to it, but when I click on the link to go to the post, it is not there.

Would someone please tell me what happened? Maybe PM me. I am not trying to be funny or disrespectful, I really want to know what happened. Why did the post disappear?

Thanks

It was too funny that it was causing injuries and it had to be removed. Some of the sides were splitting... here's a horrific picture of it happening before the sides split.

Think about the consequenses before you post!

It means that the thread degraded into what would not be considered PG-13.
Respect it.

blacklab, I sent you a PM explaining why it was removed.

There was nothing wrong with your joke. It seems that by reading the thread, one person here took offense and before it was over..the thread degraded into a typical fight with this member.....

Again, sorry if removing it caused you any problems.

No problem - I made the post before I got your PN. I don't unserstand these fights, most of them go over my head. I don't understand why anyone wants to fight anyway - hell if I want a fight I'll go to the local biker bar so the next day I'll have a good reminder why I don't fight. :)

Your point? When any of the members signed on, there as a disclamier you need to agree to, no? ;)

(I'm taking it at face value, Rainbow, that you know of the thread in question and also know how out of line it got. Other wise, you'd not be commenting, right?)

One of the ways to keep the boards clean it to actually do some house cleaning..Which goes back to that agreement you signed...There would be a lot less to "clean" if people just behaved like the person they are flaming were sitting next to them.

Im entitled to my opinion and thats what it was.
People get offended over everything nowadays.
So if it offends 1 in a million your saying you have to pull it down?
I dont agree with all the policies but I do abide by them.
That still doesnt keep me from having a different opinion however.

The Moderators jobs are difficult yes. What offends one of you may not offend the others.

We All may critisize you from time to time but we do appreciate what you do. But take the critism as constructive to make this a better place

Ok....so is the consensus that anything goes?

Imho...we are pretty lax around here as it is. A sentiment that's echoed by all the mods...and even other members.

If one has not seen that thread, how can a non biased opinon be formulated?

Not that I mind anyone having an opinion on the subject, but it just seems anymore that anytime a thread is pulled or a picture, there are some members that cry foul.

If I may explain it this way. First, this isn't exactly a public forum in the sense a lot of members think it is. Yes anyone can view and even participate in if they so choose and abide by the rules. However, you need to look at it this way, in reality it's a business, just like an eatery or a pub, or nick nack shop. If one chooses to drop in a pub and start causing trouble, does the owner not have the right to not only refuse service but also to kick that person out? What's the difference here?

If it's a lack of respect for what Philip has here, and has provided the members for free, then expect your posts and threads to not only be edited but removed from members view as well. After all, SpeedGuide is first and formost a technical site...

Back to that thread and the topic of discussion.....If anyone really has a problem with that, there is a suggestion forum and there is a PM function as well. Believe me when I say that the thead was pulled for good reason. I wonder if some are just a bit miffed simply because they missed it?

Sometimes too much is made out of nothing..and belive me...nothing was missed except a good joke by blacklab, who can certainly repost it if he so desires..

I could care less the thread was pulled or not but on to the above...

I am a paying customer at SG and so are many others. So when a paying customer's thread is pulled or canned for whatever reasons can a member receive a reimbursement?

I also might ad this is a technical site and it seems this is always brought up. Then why not eliminate the general forums altogether so we don't hear....afterall this is a technical site for the reasons why something went on?

Just a suggestion that is all.

Will you guys leave Downhill alone for crying outloud.

He made a call, or someone made a call, and that's that.

We're lucky to have DH doing most of the modding as it is.
There are other mods that would be far less forgiving, and we know it.

SO LAY OFF!!

:D

Go after the members who prompt such actions instead.

However, you need to look at it this way, in reality it's a business, just like an eatery or a pub, or nick nack shop.

I think this says it all - the board is owned by someone and he/she has the right to make the rules. We as users have to live by those rules - if we do not want to, then just go somewhere else.

I look at it this way - I do not like modern Jazz, so if I tune to a radio station that plays Jazz, should I call the station and make nasty remarks? No, I will tune to another station, or just shut it off. I think the same thing applies here, if you don't like something in a joke or remark, don't fly off the handle and start posting nasty remarks. We should try and let whoever makes the remark know how it offends us ether by a PM or a nicely worded reply to the post. Remember there are many different cultures, nationalities, and personalties reading these posts. If something offends me, but it seems it is not offensive to others, then it is MY responsibility to do something about it. If I find this person continues to post material that I find offensive, I just don't open their post.

The one thing I don't like is when a post of mine disappears, and I don't know why. Maybe it is too much work, but I would appreciate it if the moderator who removes the post would PM me with the offensive part so I will know what happened.

The technical side of the board is to me the most important part of the board. I have found there are some very smart people here who are most generous with their knowledge, and I appreciate that. Never once have I been made to feel like an idiot for asking a stupid question.

Now this is just for Blisster - no body else should read past here.

This is the joke from the first post:

Subject: Fw: Password envy

A woman was helping her husband set up his computer, and at the appropriate
point in the process, told him that he would now need to enter a password.

Something he will use to log on.

The husband was in a rather amorous mood and figured he would try for the
shock effect to bring this to his wife's attention. So, when the computer
asked him to enter his password, he made it plainly obvious to his wife
that he was keying in....

"P...

E...

N...

I....

S..."

His wife fell off her chair laughing when the computer replied:

"PASSWORD REJECTED. NOT LONG ENOUGH ".
