What you want goes against the nature of how applications work. A file on another computer, to be opened, must be copied, even if only in ram and virtual memory.

Many progranms use the windows temp folders for such actions, while the browser uses the temp internet files and makes a copy of the streaming media.
No one has any right to force data on you
and command you to believe it or else.
If it is not true for you, it isn't true.

There are applications which will stream audio files (mp3s) across your network so they are essentially buffered and streamed - pretty much like streamed audio / video on the internet.

I've only seen such applications for Apache web servers running in Linux, but I'm pretty certain that if you did a quick google, you would probably find a vast range of programs that could do a similar job.

You could make them "accessable" through a webpage instead of as "shared files" on the network

The code could be written into the html to disallow right click options (Tony can help with that)
There are ways to circumvent this approach, but the average user will not have options to save any files.

Can't you do that with Real Player?

I tried to copy a message on Real Player that I listened so I could listen to it off-line. but when I clicked on it, it just took me to the site again to reload it.

I don't know if that's that's your looking for?

Yeah, I don't think you could really do it too well by sharing the folder / files.

I would look into a webpage / streaming solution. They would have to use their browser to access the files. Check hotscripts.com for html/asp/php solutions.. Of course you would need IIS or anther webserver application to actually allow http requests....
Simply run adaware, spybot, ZoneAlarm, HijackThis, AVG, update windows daily, have a router, don't open e-mail, turn off action scripting, don't use P2P networks, don't violate EULAs, and wear a condom to get Windows secured.

People say Linux is alot of work!
