xp home taskbar problem

I use xp home came with Compaq Presario laptop. The taskbar hide inactive icons arrow just vanishing. All my inactive icons now are shown and no arrow. Is there a way to fix it?

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Taskbar and Start Menu > Check "Hide inactive icons" at bottom.

No it does not work. That's why I'm looking for help here. check or un-check the box makes no difference.

Did you try to reboot after you unchecked the box?
