Windows 98 updates may go away

Looks like they're considering removing live update for Win98...

I thought it was a done deal YOSC as of the 16th. MS is forcong people to upgrade.

It doesn't surprise me considering how old 98 is. It really doens't make sense for MS to spend time and money trying to update 98 technology when some of these technologies are included in 2000 or XP already.

Why should Microsoft keep supporting thier "end users" ?
I mean, people spent a good part of thier money on the O.S....

Why should Microsoft keep improving and fixing Windows 98, for free?
They would loose a lot of money that way... and gain some respect for a change if they did.....

I'm already preparing since I doubt that I'll be able to put a new OS on this thing anytime in the next 5 years, and by then, I'll need a new computer to run that new OS.

Hey, they could be like Apple...where when bugs and problems are found in their OS's...their answer is "Too bad...you'll have to purchase our newest OS".

At least Microsoft provides/provided updates for free, it's just after 5 years, you can't expect them to support an old OS forever.

But the fact is more than 80 percent of companies still have some machines using Windows 95 or Windows 98. Of those companies still using the older operating systems, an average of 39 percent of desktops are running either Windows 95 or Windows 98. As of a poll taken in December of 2003.

That should influence some support in my opinion.

Looks like there was such an outcry not to let win98 fall by the way side that MS will support the OS until '06.
