If I installed a "GEFORCE FX 5200 PCI 128 MB DDR TV Out" on a Emachines T1742 would I have to first disable the intergrated Intel Extreme graphics?
Also is the power supply on an emachines at least 250w?

Before you install the graphics card go into the BIOS and disable the integrated graphics if the option is there. Then shutdown and install your new vid card. If the option isn't there there might be an option that says like "Boot on AGP/Integrated" or "PCI" first.
I don't know about the PSU, just pop the cover and look at the label on the PSU.

I had a gefore4 PCI at one time, PCI is MUCH slower than agp. If at all possible grab the AGP version, I traded my PCI in for the AGP at the same cost.
I'm guessing with his mobo he doesn't have an AGP port, considering it has the integrated intel extreme chip and its an e-machine and all.
I just looked, I didn't see any PCI GF4 Ti's (plenty of MX's but not worth it)
Maybe a 128MB Radeon 9200?
The main problem with the 5200 (non ultra) is that usually it only has a 64bit memory bus. If you can get a 5200 Ultra that would be better. But really even then the 5200 itself is just dog slow, maybe look for a 5600 Ultra if you can? I saw some 5600's in PCI form.
With PCI you are just so limited with what you can get, nothing is going to perform well in current games.

Well I checked everything out and I do have a 250w power supply and I can disable it with the BIOS. It says PCI and then onboard. Thanks for the help.
Also is 768mb DDR enough ram for windows xp and to play games?
Why did they make XP such a memory hog?
768 is fine for current games
an upcoming game that does benefit from 1GB of ram or more is Doom III
why did they make xp such a memory hog? cause its made by MS, where code can be as sloppy as they want it to be, heh
