need your help on finding backup solutions!!!

Post by agentq232 »

ok well, my dad's comp went down last night, and he spent about 6 hours and tech support and ended up reformatting. HE IS PISSED at dell because the thing is only 4 months old. He need to find a way to backup his whole harddrive frequently. What is the best solution for him? i think setting up a raid mirroring system is out of the question at this point but what is a good backup solution that he can use if his computer gets messed up again?

I say burn the important stuff onto a cd. Or use Norton Ghost which will backup EVERYTHING on the entire hard drive but that would take a lot of cd's or cd-rw's but that is better than losing everything.

that seems pretty tedious but ill keep it in mind. Could he hook up a big 30 gig hdd up to the comp he has and use ghost to back up onto that hd? I would supervise the backup process and only have the backup hd plugged into his computer when we were backing up

YES YES YES backing up to another hard drive is a lot faster than cd's. I say hook up that other drive and use Ghost. That would be the best thing to do. Make sure when using ghost that you tell it to use compression.

why don't you partition your HD, make a 3 gig partition (c:\) for your OS then a d: partitions for your programs and a e: for backup....that way when your OS goes down all you have to do is format the c: partition and you won't lose any data from your d or e partitions

I would get a mobile rack. Great way of transfering or backing up data
