R.I.P. Barton

Post by LT-73 »

Well, after all the werk i did to seal up the mobo, my worst suspicions are confirmed when the nebulous did'nt boot up.

The only cause that I could see is the fact the 4 bolts that hold the mounting screws in place kept the waterblock from making 100% contact with the cpu. I had used some insulation tape to seal around the socket, but it must've prevented the block from going all the way down. There are no visible burn marks under the cpu nor any on the core itself. My guess is it fried on the inside. I swapped cpu's with the back up to test it on the 8RDA+ and sure enough it's dead :(

Time to play RMA with AMD

Yeah, i know  Kinda weird how I take all these precautions way before i power up yet the barton did'nt survive. I took out the 1 layer of tape and removed the bolts. The screws are held in place from the back where I used the tape to seal the mobo from behind. There is no other logical reason for this to happen.

At least I have the back up rig. Better than nothing

That does suck Dino. She was a good chip man. :( At least now you know it was the CPU that kept ChillZilla from comming to life. I know that's been driving you nuts over the past few days. Luckily you can get a 2500 for like $90 though when you get the loot.

Yeah, but being broke isn't a good thing. RMAing is cheaper, just the waiting is the problem. I hope the replacement is just as good.

I was looking forward to 2.7ghz or better too :(

dam how many you burn now, you count but that barton was pretty high hopefully the new one will be even better Overclocker. One of the many risks of overclocking and yet you keep doing it. if i burned one thing id stop. Keep it up.
If you won't stand behind the troops then you can trying standing in front of them.:thumb:

:rotfl:

Lemme see, from the begining i think i fried 6 cpu's, 7 mobos,3 psu's,6 Hdd's, 2 vid cards, 2 cdroms and apartridge in a pear tree :D

It's just like drag racing. You build a car from the ground up, get thru the test runs and qualifyings. Finally you get to the starting gate, you get the green, pop the clutch and blow the engine :(

Oh well, back to the 'ol drawing board.
