Upstream Rates? Problems disconnecting?

Post by super20g »

I have a cable modem plugged into a linksys router, and out of the router into a 10/100 switch with 25 clients on it and 2 server. I am having trouble uploading files using cuteftp to our websites server. I download like a madman, but upstream rates are 14-15K a second... And on big files like bigger than 6 meg, it will timeout and just keep trying to upload the files over and over.

It keeps a steady upload rate though.

Maby does anyone have a server I can upload a 10meg testfile to or something so I can test to see if its the other server?

I dont think it is though, because durring the day with a dozen users on the clients, i cant even upload 6 meg, more like 4 is the max before it errors out....

Any help is much appreciated!

On the linksys goto 192.168.1.1 and make sure you have mtu enabled.

check your messages ....

I have a feeling it could be bad cabeling or like mccoffee said mtu settings.

Have you tried uploading from other client systems?

The newer Linksys firmware should have MTU enabled, and if WAN it set to obtain auto (most common setting for cable) it should be set to 1500...but double check to be sure.

I love Linksys routers for homes and small offices with basic setups, but on larger networks, especially when you have servers involved with port forwarding, heavy loads, etc...Linksys routers are a little, err...underpowered for that. Business network here...I'd go with a business grade router.

FTP clients set for passive?

Also check this article on static LAN IP's behind a router.

MTU is set on auto. I set it on manual and set it to 1500 and it still didnt work. I am gonna try and find some bandwidth testers online and see what kind of results i get.

Ok, here's the upstream and downstream results i got online from a few different test sites.

Form Based Upstream Test

87.6 kilobits per second
Your raw speed was 87558.79 bits per second which is the same as:

Communications

87.6 kilobits per second
How communication devices are rated. Kilo means 1,000 and mega means 1,000,000. Examples include 56k modem and 10Mbit Ethernet

Storage

10.7 kilobytes per second
The way data is measured on your hard drive and how file sharing and FTP programs measure transfer speeds. Kilo is 1,024 and mega is 1,048,576.
