Just curious as to whether you defrag with the Windows defragmentation utility, or Norton's SpeedDisk, or VoptXP...or something else?

On 98 I use Millenium's version of defrag.
On 2000 I use it's built it version.

Ditto
I disable the swap file and then reboot to safe mode and defrag, then re-enable the swap file and boot to desktop.

Norm, if you see this, why you do like that? I'm always looking for a better way, so what's the advantage the way you do?

I stick with the native xp defrag utility. It may be simple but it suits my needs.

I do it that way because a lot less files are "in use" while in safe mode so they get defragged as well.
Removing the swap file from the drive while defragging ensures that when it is recreeated later that it is defragged and in a place on the drive all it's own.
As long as you set a minimum value for the swap file it will not keep resizing and getting fragged. (unless it needs to increase, but the volume that exceeds your minimum setting will be deleted every boot)

Executive's DiskKeeper makes the defrag in win2K.
No one has any right to force data on you
and command you to believe it or else.
If it is not true for you, it isn't true.
