Or you can just use X-Setup. It is redundant to use so many apps that all do the same thing, just use one and stick with it and learn it.

I completely agree with Norm, the problem is that noobs will be reformatting on a regular basis if they use regedit. The nice thing with X-Setup is that if you set it to "safe mode" it will show you what key is being edited and to what and it also gives you a brief explination of every tweak, it's just easier and safer.

eg worth for examinations
interesting is looking for other sources
IMVHO manualy twaking with regedit (also X-Setup)
are recomended for advanced tweakers
OTOH give only limited recognision in tweaking

I'd have to agree with Superman on the X-Setup, it has to be by far the most detailed, and user friendly, and after all, Mnosteele is the chosen one he wouldn't steer us wrong.

If someone isn't knowledgeable enough to back up their registry, they shouldn't be tweaking in the first place. Software also calls for this. Tweaking software or regedit, both can corrupt your registry

It's kind of ridiculous to say that, if someone who is learning yet inexperienced uses regedit and accidently deletes or edits the wrong key they could render their pc useless (not bootable). I don't see why this topis is always an agruement, we all started learning at some point and we have all messed up our registries and pc's to some extent, so why not learn the right way and do things safer? My point is the Lobo posts SO MANY apps that all do the same thing like he has found some new ground breaking discovery, what's the point? Use one and learn it and learn your OS as Norm stated and this is very easy to do with X-Setup.

Yeah your right. This is why you back up your registry. It is wise to back up before tweaking with Xsetup or regedit. Not to argue, but it is incorrect to say that as long as you use tweaking software, your registry will be fine. This is untrue. If you backup your reg, and screw something up with regedit, it is not diificult to fix, even if you cannot boot to Windows. I guess the bottom line here is it is wise to know the basics before tweaking. One being back up your registry, second knowing how to restore it from DOS. Or take the chances of what editing the registry can do.
Tweaking isn't for a novice computer user to begin with.

I agree with the fact that X-Setup makes it easier for the new guys. And I agree that before any registry changes a backup should be made, even before installing a new program (such as X-Setup) or any program.

I started tweaking with TweakUI, and used X-Setup too, and a few others. Once you learn what keys they edit, or add etc. You can move on to doing it yourself through regedit.

My first post in this thread was just poking fun, and at the same time trying to get it across to others that the less you install on your machines, and the more you get to know and use the built in features of your OS, the less problems you will have with the OS.

It's freeware, and 3rd party software that causes the most problems with a PC's OS. Stay lean and mean to get the best performance, and stability.
