Any of you hear about new FCC regulations?

Post by De Plano »

First I was wondering if any of you have heard about ANY of the discussions about revamping FCC laws from any news paper, radio, or T.V. source other than PBS?

Second I was wondering what you all thought about it.

Seems to be leaning in the wrong direction IMO.

If you don't know what I am talking about I can post some links.

Well I am off to write the FCC an E mail :)

Wha
Whats that? :D

The FCC is debating easing the restricions on media ownership rules. Basically, and yes I am against it so it is a biased description, making it so one company can own a newspaper, radio, and television company, possibly all in the same community.

The pros of it would be making it cheaper for the media companies to operate. THey would only need one set of reporters to write the stories for all the media outlets.

The cons of it are that there could only be one source for news in a community. Those media companies would not need to even be local.

One community had a train derail causing a chemical spill, the police and EMS wanted to put out an alert on the radio. When they called up the staion which was owned by Clear Channel, and not local, there was no one to talk to or put the message on the radio.

There are other cons as well, only getting one opinion on any subject making it easier for the news to be biased.

Ahh hell here ya go

We seem to be moving toward a day when there will be only 2 real media sources: Rupert Murdoch and Clear Channel.

Of course those 2 will eventually merge. Merger will be upheld by Republican appointed Supreme Court justices.

The new company will later be acquired by Microsoft.

Which will then merge with the government of the United States.

oh.... wait..... that last one's already happened.

but I'm just a paranoid fool. :p
