Is UPS always so slow?
Is UPS always so slow?
Sitting here at 6PM waiting on UPS to deliver my memory. They have had it since later Thursday evening. Supposed to be delivered today.
Next time I think I will pay more for FEDEX.

Ah....come on there was a snow storm up north that halted the progress of all packages...lol.
Next time you should use googlegear.com w/ UPS 2nd day air for .05 shipping, yes, that is correct 2nd day air, 2 days at your door for .05 cents. WHo can beat that, certainly not fedex saver from newegg. But newegg has some great prices. I use stores in this order:
googlegear.com
newegg.com
sidewindercomputer.com
then if I still can't find what i'm looking for I go to pricewatch.com

(for all ups employees reading this i'm just messing around)
H3ll i would rather use USPS then i would use UPS. I can't tell you how many times i've had my packages delivered to other houses in my neighborhood by UPS.

Haha, it WAS googlegear with UPS 2nd day air. They had all weekend to get it here. If they hadn't had the weekend, it probably would have been 4 business days.
He finally showed up around 7:15pm CST.
EDIT:
I ordered components from Newegg and Googlegear at the same time last Wednesday. Mobo, case, PSU, processor, ATI 9700 Pro from Newegg, Fedex saver shipping. Received all of it by Noon on Friday! Two days, from order to doorstep.
Googelgear - ordered Corsair twin pack, got it Monday, w/ UPS 2nd day air. UPS took its sweet time getting it across the country.

Tushay I work for UPS.
If you guys don't concentrate on a merger between your ground and air, you're going to have big problems. And believe me its going to be a logistical nightmare. YOu guys have like 3 drivers going to the same house and all of the drivers are dispatched out of different centers. Think of the cost plan savings with a merger, hence you stock is dropping. (LOL ours did too this week)
Are you a driver? How much do you guys make an hour now? What about your management team you know how much they make? Just curious wanted a little comparison. I know like management in my center get ungodly amounts of stock free.
Just for fun anyone want to take a guess what a UPS vs. FedEx driver makes? Whoever is closet gets a cookie. LOL

Yeah, the big fear should be that we are taking a hold in all markets now, parcel, truck load, and less-than-truck-load. I work for the newly acquired FedEx Freight East (AKA- American Freightways) and we are now trying to merge our computer systems with our sister company on the west coast. Once we get the kinks worked out on that, global domination will begin.
I dont drive, i'm a linehaul dispatcher and im in the low 50's(sux but that's what i get for not going to and finishing college)...i'm stuck doing i job i hate..errr loath just to pay the bills.
And you guys are way off on driver salaries. I have drivers that make $80k+/year (based on a 60 hour/7day logging system). The average is in the mid $60's for us and they are home every day and not on the road (which equates to a happier work force=NO EFFING UNION).

This was current as of 2000 I can't find anything later http://members.aol.com/BobKutchko/UnionYes/page64.html
You can see the difference in the UPS then and now.
BTW pay close attention to how long it takes a UPS driver to max out at top pay 2 years; yes 2 years.
Well I don't know about the rest of the U.S. but FedEx drivers in Florida make about 17 bucks an hour which is less than the Post Office which sits around 20 bucks(and also gets like every freaking holiday off) an hour vs. UPs drivers making like 26 bucks an hour and will be at 30/an hour at end of contract.(This is straight time pay, anything over 8 is time and a half and its based on the day not on over 40 a week and if your a bonus center you run time allowance and if you run your route in under that you get paid for that time too) As far as UPS Feeder drivers they are paid more than the package drivers. That is not to mention full benefits paid for by the company, stock options at 80% cost.
What I don't understand is why FedEx makes their drivers lease their trucks, and basically act as sub-contractors. And the drivers down here are out no later than ours especially since they are dispatched out of a city that is at least an hour away.
If you talk about company net worth too, UPS is way out front, until a couple years ago we were privately owned. Ups owns all their building facilities, all their trucks, all their planes, and not to mention countless real estate(for example the Louisville, KY Air Hub leased land to a college to extend its campas and is offering free schooling to its employees) newly acquired MailBoxes ETC. which we will be changing its name shortly, UPS Logistics INC., and surprise, surprise Winston ciggerette company is in trouble financially so will be forced into giving up its hold on the Winston Cup Race, guess who stepped in....yep you guessed it Big BRown. You are comparing a company that made 40 billion in revenue to a company sitting at about 17 Billion, and that is revenue not profit. Here is a quote: sorry my figures were somewhat off.

interesting stuff
Basically it boils down to UPS just has more money, more assets. If it was a prize fight this would be the outcome: http://www.allfunpix.com/picspages2/ups-vs-fedex.html
And as for the Union here are my thoughts. Not only do I work for the largest Parcel service in the world but also the biggest Union. Do you know that UPS workers make up more teamsters than anyone else? And it boils down to making 50K a year and clearing like 55-60K
But none the less both are no doubt good companies to work for, especially for kids getting out of school. While in school I had no idea Ups drivers make the money they make. And lets not forget the USPS another great company to work for.

Nevertheless, on many fronts, UPS is winning the battles. And the companies' diverging fortunes are starting to show up on the bottom line. In revenues, both giants enjoy comparable growth: UPS surged 11% in 2000, to $30 billion, while FedEx's revenues grew 8.8%, to $18 billion. But in the same period, UPS raked in $2.8 billion in profits, giving it an operating margin of 15.3%. That's roughly double the margin at FedEx, which eked out just $688 million in profits. As the economy slows and competition gets more brutal, both companies are feeling the pain. FedEx's profits were down 4% in its latest quarter, and UPS's were down 8.9% in the quarter ended Mar. 31. FedEx has warned that things will get worse.

Did not see UPS on any of these
As for the Union...there are only a hand full Union LTL carriers left...they all go out of business b/c they cant cut it financially.
Consolidated Freight was the latest to go completely under.
I can't speak about the Parcel side of it really...ive never worked for any parcel company...i've always been in the LTL business. The company i work for was the best in the business b4 fedex bought us but with them backing us now financially we will begin to take complete control of the LTL industry soon....we (the LTL side) are gradually migrating to a 'guaranteed service product' or it will be FREE. No one can do this but us and no one will be able to compete. We already do 800-900 mile next day service, which is also unheard of in the LTL industry.

LOL....Are you serious? That was like the first year you guys made that list. We were on it every other time. But to stick to the facts here: You didn't see it because UPS was here:
http://www.fortune.com/fortune/fortune5 ... 55,00.html
#55\ BTW that is the list for the richest companies in the world. lol
Like I said before UPS has a flow of money. Think about it we've been in business for 100 years. FedEx backing you finacially is not saying much, they are in trouble.
And as far as the Union theory that it will go bust how do you think we acquired most of the air rights to china and various other countries. As much as people hype up this UPS/Teamster vendetta its nothing more than a smokescreen. The bottomline is UPS is the biggest Parcel delivery service, the Teamsters are the biggest union together they will dominate. See the thing is the Teamsters control the Health and Pension do you have any idea what kind of money this generates? Yes UPS would like to have control of this, but they don't. How do you think it was possible to fund a 2 week strike? I mean who else could have done that? Not FedEx. They just don't generate the profit that UPS does. Look at the links I posted it right there in black and white right down to the fiscal year> Have you looked?
BTW I respect FedEx and their drivers, I am not trying to argue with you just making my points.

lol, Yes im serious but remember we are young...it might be the first time on the lists' but wont be the last.
The teamsters lie, manipulate and cheat to make their numbers say what they want you to read. Overnite Transportation was on strike for well over 2 years and it got them nowhere..no contract..nothing............and now that everyone realizes what fonies the teamsters are they have been completely De-certified from almost all once represented facilities including ATLANTA. I have a neighbor who is retired from Yellow and there are months that he doesnt get a check from the Teamsters retirement fund b/c they cant pay it b/c they are broke, and there are many more like him. Your point about UPS not being able to touch their own retirement is the part that sux...the teamsters, not ups has control of your retirement and it is not secure or guaranteed. I guess my point of view comes from the LTL side and not the parcel side as it might work better at ups....You also have to remember the numbers for us are not going to be as big as yours b/c were only a 5th the age, but we are catching you exponentially and will monopolize transportation soon....Remeber what i told you b4...Fedex is not just a parcel service...we handle it all for the customer..."one stop shopping' if you will....We are heading to a point where the customer will only have to call one number to handle all their shipping needs (parcel, TL, LTL, Custom critical)....You havent Seen Ownage yet....
BTW, you can never sell the teamster crap to me...ive seen it first hand when i worked for overnite and their intimidation tactics are pathetic and the ones who picket with these types of strategies arent what i would call strong business partners(they are thugs).
My point isnt meant to be personal but im not a fan of the teamsters....Ups might be a great company but the idiots(teamsters) that you have protecting you is what bothers me and is what will inevitably be a weakness.
Also, i guess my point of view is based on the fact that Fedex walked into a great thing when the purchased American Freightways and renamed it FEDEX FREIGHT. I actually work for AMERICAN FREIGHWAYS who was bought by fedex and i know we are the best Ltl carrier in the industry. our service and customer satisfaction speaks for itself.
LOL, the hardware forum isnt the best place to have this conversation, b/c most prolly dont care about this crap
Sorry for the RANT you'all.

So basically like a mini-UPS.....LOL
LOL the Teamsters are broke. They probably have more money than Fedex. And I can send you overnite's contract, who I will add make more money than Fedex drivers. Dude think about it the reason UPS drivers make more money, have all benefits free, best retirement 401K, stock options, you name it, its because of the Union. That is why you guys don't make as much money as us. Your intuition that Fedex will "own" Ups is a dream that hasn't been realized yet because if you look at the scoreboard its 4th and one and your deep in your own territory. Don't drop the ball...lol
And nothing in life is guranteed, except my job by the "Teamsters". What is not is your job if your boss doesn't like you.lol Because I don't know how old you are but from what you've stated you've been laid off quite a bit, maybe you should see what the Teamsters can do for you.
But your right we could argue this all day every day and you would still think that Fedex has some money they set away for a rainy day well its like 40billion to 16billion clocks ticking. But again your right and this isn't the proper forum.
So my lite-on burner is better than your yamaha... just j/k bro
Seriously good luck in your merger.

Yea its good for both sides because you know management for the most part makes more than the drivers plus their stock, I mean business managers probably get anywhere from 400-600 shares of stock as christmas bonus. And the drivers start at like 50-60K a year. I wish they gave the drivers stock in the company, it would be like a savings plan. Maybe I will bring it up. Right now we get it at 10% cost of class A shares which don't cost as much as Class B(Class A which are company shares only; 1 class A share is equvilant to 10 class B shares, and also = 10 votes to 1 so UPS will never be public owned even though we did go IPO to generate more money we have since bought back most of those shares) which can't be sold or traded in the Stock market, but can be converted to class B which can.
