DSL slowdown problem

Post by Robairre »

I'm new to these boards. so I'm sorry if I've posted this in the wrong place.

I recently got a DSL internet connection and it works, except for one problem.
Whenever I click on a link or type in a URL, it takes some time, up to two minutes, before the little bar in Internet Explorer will even appear. (the one that signifies that there's a connection & the page is loading) Once it appears it goes fast, but until then it takes a long time.
Is this a problem with my computer, my modem, phone line, or something else?

Click the "New to tweaking" link in my sig, look for "Assigning IP Address for your NIC". Follow the instructions and you should be fine..

If you have any further questions that aren't answered in the first link you clicked, just ask and we'll try to assist you ASAP.

Thanks everyone.
I (obviously) forgot to mention that it's DSL, Windows 98, 100 mps maximum, no, I don't use a router, and I've never configured my system for DSL aside from what's in the manual.
Thanks for the help.

Just my 2 cents, but I would ping the dns server to see what type of delay I get. It sounds like his connection is fine. He might just want to find a faster server.
