Unstable DSL

Post by techopsTM7 »

TCP properties for IP = 65.80.XXX.XXX (adsl-80-XXX-XXX.bna.bellsouth.net)
Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98)
Note: Read the FAQ if the above is not your IP address.

TCP options string = 020405ac01010402

MTU = 1492
MTU is optimized for PPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput.

MSS = 1452
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1452, which equals MSS.
MSS is optimized for PPPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for maximum throughput.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 65535
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 65535
Note: Under Windows 9x, if you have RWIN set to any other value, and the Analyzer reports 65535 you might need to install the MS Vtcp386 fix.
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
511104 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
255552 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
127776 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
63888 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2621.4 kbps (327.675 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1048.56 kbps (131.07 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 52 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

5967147 connections tested since 03.10.2001.

Analyzer version: 1.02 - updated 09.20.2002.

2003-01-30 09:27:01 EST: 1204 / 220
Your download speed : 1204735 bps, or 1204 kbps.
A 147 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 220385 bps, or 220 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

DSL is pretty unstable and conn speed came down. I am using your tweaks there any setting that i must make to get better?

How is your DSL unstable ? Just to let you know Bellsouth is still in the middle of a major rerouting issue. It has created high pings and unstable connections from most BS users... Bellsouth has created a BRIB (BellSouth Regional IP Backbone) , they say that it will make the BS Network very fast when all the bugs get worked out...Here are 2 posts that should give you all the info you want , the 2nd link is very long 670 posts....

Current BRIB Info

Why the new Route
