just got outta shower and on way out door. mornings are no bueno for me. too groggyr hung over :p

i dont think they were modd'd Q3A servers with grapple hook (i could be wrong, which as we all know is the most likely possibility). i never played Quake at all till a friend turned me on to Q2, but i do remember hanging from the bottom of the rail gun platform in Q3A on what is called The Logest Yard map in QL. plus the CTF space map.

are the prox mines only certain maps/mods in QL? some of the weaps in the config menu i dont think ive picked up yet.

Some maps also have Doubler, Guard, Scout, and Armor powerups.

Doubler doubles your damage, Guard blocks about half they say, Scout makes you move faster, but only allows you to keep 50 armor without it ticking down, and Armor regens 10 armor a second up to 100.

Doubler with Rail, the shotgun or chaingun works well, but can really suck if 1 team has all the good railers. lol

YeOldeStonecat wrote:Modded servers maybe? I love love loooooved the hook in Quake 1...I spent ooodles of hours playing on a server which ran a mod called "Requiem".

I don't recall seeing it in Q3....if there's a modded server that runs one...lemme know! :D
I played a mod of insta freeze tag that had the hook enabled in Q3A...hope QL adds freeze tag to the mods...greatest mod ever.

yeah, ive picked up the floaty "M" and "T". havent found the runfast one yet. just learning the map layouts is enough of a challenge for the time being for me.

i looked around and i am surprised to not find a single decent screenie of someone using the grapple hook. in looking i did uncover the fact that it could either be on a server that had cheat codes enabled (/give grappling hook for the hook, /give all gave all except the hook), or on a mod server. i guess that was awhile ago, so a lot of the old Q3A pages have gone poof. had me worried that i had lost my last brain cell.

sorry bout this morn, YeOlde. i did a drive-by post on the way into the shower. i have morning class Mon - Thurs and was rushing to not be late, lol

nice find! ill be checking that out.

as far as the SG fragging, since it seems we'd only have 3 thus far if it were to happen, any preference on mode? i wouldnt mind ctf, tdm or clan but that would require me knowing the map or else i would just be a huge suckpump. FFA, instagib would be quick and dirty fun. just find an empty server, change the map to what we want and get a few minutes of fun in.

ideas? for me, Mon-Thurs are hit 'n miss. after class i do do tutoring, which can be 1 to 3 hours. unpredictable. Thurs evening through sunday afternoon can be considered open. doesnt really matter to me.

I am a CTF *****. 1276 games played, 1255 are CTF.

Stonecat loves his FFA. 1307 games played, 1304 are FFA.

Loop2kil switches between CA and FFA. 218 games played, 133 are CA and 85 are FFA.

So it looks like FFA. If I saw you all in one I'd probably join.

There is also a good tier checker:

http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/45432

I'm at tier 2 for FFA, 3 for everything else, finally back down to tier 3 in CTF, feels good to be able to score again. lol

Tiers 1-5, 1 is the lowest, 5 is the highest.

yup. not too bad teamwork for a (non-serious) pug. my main problem is i tend to push the skirmish line too quickly. im used time = opportunity for them to heal. the downside is, i will tear ass forward kinda not paying attention to if teammates are actually following me or if the opfor has come up from behind. usually, as long as i take 1 of them with me when i die its not completely faulted logic, but it doesnt exactly work well with the idea of kinda trying to win :p

Yeah, in that mod the kamikaze approach that I seem to take a good bit of the time, doesn't work that well...When I spec the better players they have a certain 'patience' that seems to help them attack at better times and with the right weapon.

Changed my config more from the other post.

Screenie:

Nice bright map and solid white enemies(black head though so they "fit" better) to help with finding them.

Also started to use the vstr command for binds so that I can bind 2 weapons to 1 key and basically toggle between them.

I have the rocketlauncher and shotgun on Q, the lightning gun and railgun on E, and the gauntlet and proxy mines on R.

when i first started playing again, i was rocket launcher happy. now, not so much. more use the shotty unless im outside. i am a complete menace to my k/d ratio with a rocket launcher. 2nd leading cause of death is falling either into space or lava. or green goo.

too many years of mmoing has left my pinpoint aim in the crapper. as far as fun, for me its either dumping a load of grenades into a dogpile from the next room, or jumping/zigzagging down a long hallway or across an open area to fist a guy trying to rail me.

We can try to keep on Texas servers...I have great low pings to them, usually 30-40.

I'm still fine tuning my newly rebuilt PFSense box, just brought her online this week..added a ton of SNORT rules but I'm still tweaking the traffic shaping.

Think I have a failing coax splitter in my basement though, I'll get occasional periods of the flashing disconnect icon while playing.
