America doesn't have the political will to fight a long war in Iraq. It does, or at least did have the will to fight terrorism, and the rest of the world would have backed you too. Snubbing the UN and "going it alone if need be" you've set yourselves up for failure.

The 3 day war reference was to address the common belief (at the time) that Iraq would be a cakewalk. (by many members of this forum) It wasn't directed at you personally.

iraq would have been a cakewalk if we did not care about innocent lives unlike terrorists.

Human life is very cheap in that part of the world. I'm just glad we as Americans have the ballz to stand up to this. Just like Atlas carried the Earth on his back in greek mythology, America carries the safety of the free world on its'. Some people will deny this is true but in their hearts they know better.

take it however you want, as long take it. nomatter how typical.

and i don't remember much belief that it would be a cake walk. actually just the contrary. there were many fears that it was going to be a hard horrible war with many dead. sure it was a bit of suprise when saddams forces just walked away.

and yes it is my prerogative to address any, all or none of anyones post, just as it is yours as well.

i'm also talking of the many people i meet during my time at work, as well as current (at the time) news reports. it seemed the talk was that it was going to be a hard war against the then worlds fourth largest army.

Iraq i thought would be a cakewalk not denying it at the same time i feel bad for the soliders over there in that enviroment it's hard to tell who's the enemy and who isn't it's kinda like vietnam in many ways alot of people didn't accept the fact that we screwed up by going in there untill many years after the fact.

As for the usa i agree we could take care our selfs at the same time i don't aagree with the usa being a police force for the nation. If spain or any european country was in trouble we would be there, it's a shame they don't do it when need help.

We would need to be rescued because we don't have 100 million people ready to fight off a US invasion, but our friends do.

We take care of ourselves by not putting all of our security eggs in one basket by befriending ONLY the US. We do not follow the US down every path either, and in so doing we preserve other important friendships along with our integrity.

For the record UOD, I have all the respect in the world for any soldier fighting to preserve freedom, I also have the same respect for soldiers who believe they are fighting for freedom when in fact they are not. I refuse to lie about and/or defend actions that are blatantly wrong.
I will also play the devils advocate at times just to expand minds.

seriously i think this is a bad example, you cannot compare invading canada to Iraq, for the simple reason it will never happen. Unless somehow Canada gets taken over by a dictator like Saddam Houssein and starts to torture and kill his own people and so on..but we know that wont happen.

So i think this arguement is invalid because you cannot debate something that wont happen.

I mean I can say what if the French invaded the U.S? What we would do and would people help us...but we know that wont ever happen.

I've said it countless times..We needed to take care of bin Laden and Al Qaeda there. Now..tell me how many troops we have there and how many in Iraq? I also believe we should have been doing more than we did right from the beginning. We should have had a LOT more ground forces there. bin Laden would be dead by now.

Now.....IF you want to turn this into a partisan thread..be my guest. Just keep in mind that for the most part, most of what you have to say about the preceding President and his war on terror has already been covered here.

Wagging the dog is a really poor term DH. People can say that they were lied to by the President on why to go to war, but it's not hard to find a legitimate reason to go to war with Iraq (Saddam's treatment of people being just one).

It really wasn't or isn't necessary to invent something to take down Iraq, although no doubt the President certainly came close to doing that, that said there is nothing "Wag the Dog" like about it.
