More memory
When I first got my DSL they said I had to be at 80-85% resources. So I had to buy a 128 memory chip. Well this isnt enough either. I have an original 128 chip already. My question is do the two chips have to match or can i purchase a 256 chip?? and put it alongside the 128 chip?? Or would you suggest something else?

memory and resources are 2 different things.
what have you got running in your tray, that's where resources are used up. what os and processor?
as for the chips, they should be the same type. I have a 128Mb, tried to add a 64Mb (both pc100, different makers). computer booted up okay, listed the ram (win98se), but i noticed system seemed slow. Then found I couldn't do a restart, could shut down, but would hang closing on restart. tried another 32Mb i had laying around, it came up as 16Mb but it was a 32, and shows up as 32 in my old computer (even put it back in there to be sure it was ok).
You could try the chip, see what happens.

Using DSL will not use your RAM up, if you connect your modem via USB it will effect your resources which is bad. If you are connecting via USB go buy yourself a NIC (ethernet card), it doesn't use resources and your connection will be more stable. As for your question about the RAM, it depends on what your motherboard will support per slot, refer to your manual or manufacturer for that.
