and this is microsoft error with the event ID error:

Event Log Error: Event ID 105 from Service W3SVC or FTPSVC
The information in this article applies to:
Microsoft Internet Information Server 4.0

This article was previously published under Q240779
SYMPTOMSWhen you use Internet Information Server (IIS) 4.0, one of the following errors may occur in the event log:

Source: W3SVC
Event ID: 105
Description: The server was unable to register the administration tool discovery information. The administration tool may not be able to see this server. The data is the error code.
-or-

Source: FTPSVC
Event ID: 105
Description: The server was unable to register the administration tool discovery information. The administration tool may not be able to see this server. The data is the error code.

RESOLUTIONRemove, and then reinstall the NetBIOS Interface network service. To do this, perform the following steps:
In Control Panel, double-click Network, and then click the Services tab.
Select NetBIOS Interface, and then click Remove.
Click Close (this will cause the bindings to be rebuilt). When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
After the computer restarts, open Control Panel again, double-click Network, and then click the Services tab.
Click Add, select NetBIOS Interface from the list of network services, and then click OK.
Click Close (this will cause the bindings to be rebuilt). When you are prompted to restart the computer, click No.
Re-apply the latest Windows NT service pack, all Windows NT Security Rollup packages, and all IIS Security Rollup Packages.
Restart the computer.

Okay, to follow microsoft to fix this error, i have to remove NetBios Interface Network service but when i click on the Control Panel > Network then there is no Service tab.

i'm using Windows 2000 Avd Server (the setting in control panel is the same with win2000 or win 2000server)

Help me please since this bug is drive me insane.
the result to this error is when i run FTP server, i can log in and do anything a FTP server can do but "CAN'T LIST" file in root dir or subfolders and this happen even i do a fresh install of the server.

If it isn't there then just go in and install it. Try that first. Follow the instructions in your KB article and add it in.

The comments by Microsoft are somewhat misleading with regards to event 105. This event will be triggered by four services (w3svc, smtpsvc, nntpsvc and msftpsvc) once every three minutes after you install IIS 5 or any of its components on a w2k server on which the NetBIOS over IP service has been disabled. The problem, however, is that just about every security consulting group AND Microsoft tell you to disable the NetBIOS over IP in w2k as it is a) no longer needed and b) a security threat. W2K and IIS 5 work perfectly fine even if NetBIOS is turned off; however, your event log will overflow with these 105 events.
Simply open the properties tab of the Local Area Connection tab on the server which hosts IIS 5 and remove the check from the box besides "Client for Microsoft Networks". W2k will now work just fine.

Is the system setup as a domain controller? Are you behind a router? Is port 21 open? Do the folders have the correct permissions and security settings.

Whats the ip or domain name so I can see whats up from the outsided world and do you have anonymous allowed access?
