Need help for a college computer setup

Post by fubarman »

I'm goin to college next Fall and I'm looking to get a decent setup for my dorm room. I was looking on Alienware's site and I really like the Navigator Extreme. I really want to be able to watch TV, play games (PS2), and use the computer all on one screen (Flat panel). I also want to have a killer sound setup . . . 5.1 for DVD's and such, a really good sound card that will be compatible w/ the Navigator (External is what I would really like; through USB). I was thinking the Klipsch 5.1 500 watt setup as far as speakers go. I also would like to get an external USB hard drive (200+ gigs) for movies and music. So basically I need help choosing a monitor (20"), and a sound setup. I would also like to know how I could hook up my PS2 to the monitor. Would it also be a smart idea to add an external Plextor CD-R burner 48/24/48x, just for the increased burning speed and just also to have two CD drives? O, and I suppose I need a printer . . . something small and spacesaving but great quality. If you have any comments please post them and if you could help me out that would be great. Thanks for your time.

One of those small form factor "cubes" would do nicely in a cramped college dorm room.

ATI all in wonder radeon (whichever is newest version, I think its like 9800.) You can have tv, dvi, svideo, rca video inputs and outputs.

You cannot go wrong with one of those and it will provide you with all the functionality you could need. Save yourself the cost of a TV and plug anything you need right into it (vcr/dvd/game console/camcorder for editing video)

My dad currently has his computer set up here till he gets a permanant place here in IN(recently moved here from MA and is living with family until work situation firms up) and I use his ATI all in wonder radeon all the time. I have both cable and broadband network in the spare bedroom where he is and he uses it as a TV while he is visiting.

I guess my point is that if your looking for an all in one computer, the ATI All in Wonder card is the only way to go!
