Why are there tons of C-130 or C-5 going over my house?
I live right near Stewart Intl base, and I dont know if they are C-5 or C--130, but they have huge wingspans, with like 4 of those engines on each wing, and when they come over my house,
my whole house shakes like you wont beleive.
My question is what are they doing here? Should they not be in Iraq?
btw they are landing not taking off. I must have counted about 6 of them in the past 1.5 hours

I love the C-130s...worked on them for about 5 years before we transitioned into a new aircraft back in the Navy...our squadron had about 8 of them (one of which is now the Blue Angel's Fat Albert transport)...

Yep you are right I should not be complaining...lol
I should be lucky we have them.
btw that picture does not show how big the C-5 really is comapred to other planes...i dont think pepole realize how big these thigns are..LOL
I have been living here 4 years and still not use to the noise, especailly after 9-11, my wife use to freak out in the middile of the night when we heard them right after.
The B-1 bomber in a full AB takeoff is the loudest plane I've ever heard take off.
I was standing on the flightline and although I was screaming at the top of my lungs to another airman I couldn't tell if there were any words coming out of my mouth. I wasn't wearing hearing protection either.
C-5's are funny to watch when they take off. As they climb, if you didn't know any better, you'd swear on your grandma's apple pie they'd fall right out of the sky. It looks like a turtle taking flight.

When I was stationed out at Tinker AFB, the B-1 would be doing touch and go's, and each time it would throttle up to ascend, all the car alarms in our squadron's parking lot would go off...we were about a half mile from the runway

You are right when I see the C-5 land they seem to go in slow motion...
btw they seem the loudest to me right as they land, I guess when they put it in some special gear or something..
I have no clue what I am talking about, but those who do know what I am talking about...lol
If you want to see something funky, watch the landing gear on the C-5 as it is retracted...they turn sideways, then retract into the wheel well...
But like Respice said, they look like they're barely moving in the air...

Maybe over the weekend when I hear them fly in the daytime I will run out and get some pics, and show how close they are to my house in relation to their size, to people who dont know what C-5 are who seen them, they will be amazed.

Most large planes are this way.
Yeah, but the C-5 is even more so, just because of the sheer enormity of it...we used to have the C-5s that were stationed out of Dover, DE do touch and go's on our airstrip at Pax River, MD, because we had the longest strip on the east coast (2.5 miles long)...

Plane doesn't need that much runway to take off and land. Only about 9,000 feet to take off and 5,000 to land. Hell a 777 needs more runway than that and is about 1/2 the size.
Respect it.
