SpyBot 1.2 Updates ?

Post by joe2cool »

Hi ! just updated 'SpyBot 1.2 & downloaded the 'Updated Detections 2003.03.16 & even though it shows in left hand side as update file retrieved, it still appears in main frame as if for downloading ?

Just wondering why this was ? Is it a bug ?

Any help is appreciated

spybot update

Post by ghettoside »

Is the file checked off with a green check mark? If so it should be downloaded, otherwise select a mirror and download update (right hand upper of window). When updating spybot, first it searches for updates, then you have to check off the boxes for the ones you want and download them. After files download in spybot, they show a green check mark indicating download completed. (maybe you already know this).
Or maybe you got a bad download. See the earlier thread started by Underscore tonight.
You also might want to check Pepik's forum for info on bugs with 1.2.
I had a bit of trouble with the 1.2 update earlier. Sent an email to Kolla. Just got a reply with fix. Seems it wasn't doing what I thought it was doing, and I just have to make a setting adjustment that I didn't see. Will try it later after I get some sleep. Still doesn't explain the trouble I had uninstalling 1.2, (which happened to someone else according to Pepik's forum) and doesn't explain what happened to some registry keys I recently added that disappeared after I ran 1.2.
Maybe I have a virus that Norton and Trojan Remover haven't detected. Just had a email notification of infection, not sure if it's a hoax or for real.
Hope you don't have bug trouble with 1.2.

Yes you can use any of the mirrors. I'm holding off on 1.2 until I read about the bugs and fixes.

Hi ! Firstly I was wondering if & when there might be a fix for the inability of being able to uninstall from 'Add/Remove' once V1.2 installed ? What is the safest & correct procedure ? Should we just wait ? as what as been said in certain forums? Or should we download latest version again & install over the top ?

Also I've noticed when I put a tick in 'Remind me to look for updates at program start' ...accessed via settings/web update.....no pop up occurs as did with previous version ?

I can't find in forums any one else mentioning this, so just wondered?

Apart from this the program runs as normal, but really would like to know what to do......'Uninstall or keep it' ?

THX ! :)

Who knows when the program will be fixed. Probably won't have to wait long. Keep an eye on Spybots 1.x forum

http://www.net-integration.net/cgi-...fff;act=SF;f=28

just looked at it and there still appear to be some problems that PepiMK is looking into, but the board is much calmer today.
Myself, I'm going to hold off a little longer with the 1.2 update, can still update detections. Still not getting any spyware detected so I'm not concerned. You should run Spyware Blaster and Spywareguard with Spybot, it's very effective.

I'll post a notice when 1.2 is fixed. At this time it looks like uninstall then fresh install of 1.2 is the ticket.

is there a way to update spybot other than using their interface? seems like perhaps the firewall at werk stops the app dead and fails to connect to the updater... :(

never mind..just saw the post on the bugs site... :)
