still baffled ????
Sid, ye Ole Stonecat, and Burke, thx guys for replying to my original post, unfortunately i had no luck,( post was about asus mobo not detecting hard drive),
is it possible that a power supply might not give enuff juice as, to cause the mobo to not detect the hard drive,
i tried 3 diff mobos, P# system, and the P4 with the asus and none of them picked up the hard drive, i even tried a seagate barracuda, same thing, no valid fat32 found etc etc no I/0 its a turbolink 420 watt that came with the case i bought, i did a search on em, u can buy em all day long for 25$ or less new,
that tells me that 420 is prob only a 220,
i had a dvd , dvd writer and 6 fans and 2 cold cath lights hooked up, lol
it picked up everything but the hard drive have any of u ever run into something like this?
i got a enermax 430 whisper gonna try it if it dont work,
see the classified i;m dumping the whole shebang,, go back to webtv lol

I would go through a process of elimination,
i had a problem a while back where my dvd drive and my cd writer would eject them selfs from the hardware list, and they would not be accessable any more.
I tryed a few things and found it to be not enough power. I had a 350 psu that came with the case and it was powering my motherboard, 3 hard disks 2 cd drives, cpu fan and 2 case fans.
soo i decided to grab an old 220 psu from my store and wired it up to the two cd drives anbd ran that for a few weeks. but what a pain that was having to rember to switch on two power supplies. soo eventually the problem stopped and i put it down purly to not enough umph juice from my PSU. I decided to by a 550 watt PSU and have not had a bity O bother since them
Try it wil a diffrent PSU first
What other problem it may be if it is not formatting is that the format disk you are using is fecked, and it can't load the correct fat 32 settings but i am prolly just reading the post wrong... sorrry
hope this helps ya out....keep us posted

Is the harddrive not detected, or is the OS not detected? You said it gave you an error about FAT32, I don't think the BIOS or MB would care about the filesystem on the drive.
Where is your other thread?

harddrive not detected
ya i tried about 8 diff ribbons and cables, the fat32 error came up when i even tried to run w/d boot disk for their drives, no o/s on the drive, but it has had one before, the previous post was in this forum about a week ago entitled "baffled", i fig it was asus board, jumper settings, maybe the cable bad drive, i tried 3 diff mobos, with 3 diff processors memory etc, i have a heckva mess in this room, i got hard drives , anti static bags, cables , screws, everywhere, to the untrained eye-- looks as if i had a fit of rage..lol
i appreciate all of u guys responding, i bought this case at newegg the alum chieftec with 420 watt p/s which i know p/s u can usually tell by the weight, as to how good/wound they are,
i am going to switch power supplies i guess, Mc tigger--(j/k) perhaps reinforced my theory that that may be it considering the payload i have ,
i;ll repost later and let ya know how it works out,, thx again alll, i never have had this happen, its been a pardon the pun--- a knightmare"""

Those Turbolink PS's suck balls dude. My buddy was having major system problems for months, we couldn't figure out what it was. He had the damn PS tested TWICE, not just once!
I was convinced that it was a PS problem. We got him a new Enermax 400W and his machine runs perfect now. (after RMAing 3 boards LOL)
I'm not saying that its definitely your PS but I wouldn't rule it out at all. Try another one and see what happens.
PS he has one of those chieftech cases from newegg too with the same PSU. On review I'd almost guarantee thats your problem.

I will also back up the theory that those psu's suck bad...get rid of it and get a good one....though the no detection thing bothers me...have u unhooked all the other crap except video, hd and cpu fan?
could have a board with bad ide channels too (yeah even asus has a bad one once in awhile)...<knocks on wood> i havent yet.

this blowz lol, there has to be some simple thing i am overlooking, same problem 3 diff boards, guess i will put my stun gun on all 3 of em and rma them lol j/k,

i remember a buddy of mine was running a p3 asus board and had trouble with his northbridge. while his hd's were detected, they were pretty slow. since he didnt know how fast they should have been, he didnt realize how slow he was going.
my point? it's here someplace...
oh yes. perhaps, you should consider picking up a ata66 through ata133 controller card. if you have a mom+pop puter shop, you can often buy one super cheap and if it turns out not to solve your problem they'll usually take it back. how cheap? i'm thinking 30 or less cheap.
found them on ebay for 10ish.

oh yeah??
i have a ATA133 controller card, but i was going to add it later maybe, so what u are saying is put in the ata card, then just hook the h/d to it as a master and vola~ problem solved???
good point will try that now thxx...
