My dedicated CS server is up!

Post by HongKongPolice »

IP: 216.75.179.232

3.5Mb/800Kb DSL in Toronto Ontario, on a Dual Celery rig.

The IP shouldn't change at least until Feb 1st when I switch ISPs, or unless i need to reboot my router.

Not sure what maps I should put on the mapcycle, I mainly play iceworld cuz I think big maps are boring, and most of the standard CS maps are wayyyy overplayed (like de_dust). Got any suggestions? :)

Argh, it seems like ppl are having probs connecting. They keep getting dropped for some reason, and I suspect its the same "Error, server verfication failed" thingy, which is most likely caused by VAC, cuz recently I get the same error msg when I try connecting to other servers.

Does any1 else experience the same probs?

BTW new IP, had to reboot router

216.75.179.232

Ya I kinda like Aim maps, but not many ppl have em, and if you do a search, only about 150 servers any any 1 time play em, so not many players either.

Yep, itz a pub server, default port 27015

I have plenty of bandwidth to spare so might as well share it :)

I'm having performance problems tho. Whenever a round is over, my pings jump from 6-10 to like 40, and when the next round starts, and theres lotz of ppl on the server, my pings stay around 20, which is very bad for a LAN connection.

Other ppl's pings jump about 20ms as well when there are lotz of ppl playing. Bandwidth is not an issue cuz I can upload @ around 90KB/s and when the server is full, it only uses max of 45KB/s.

I'm using StatsMe, AdminMod, HLGuard and WinHL Booster. Does any1 know any tweaks for HLGuard or WinHL Booster? I'm using the default settings for both of em, and I think WinHL Booster needs to be tweaked. Without WinHL Booster, I get an avg of about 11ping to the server when its empty, which seems really high for a LAN connection.... With it, I get avg of about 5ping when the server is empty.

Server stats:
Abit BP6
Dual Celery 466@560 (80FSB)
416MB Ram
2 NICs: 3Com 905B-TX and 905-TX
One nic is dedicated for internet CS traffic, the other is dedicated for LAN filesharing and Lan CS traffic.

Hl-guard doesn't do much. It only blocks some cheats. Vac takes care of most. Also, OGC 9 has be reawakened and vac proof and hlguard proof.LFTX 4.0 also is vac proof AND hlguard proof Anything that gets past vac pretty much gets past Hlguard. ITs kinda like a waste of resources.Dont ask me about how i know about the cheats... :D

me neither it shows name but nothing else. I went in and my ping was like 300-400 (really high for me), went in my favorite server and ping was 120, but I had moved my wireless mouse receiver doubt that made a difference tho.

Why do ppl ONLY like iceworld?!? Whenever its iceworld, my server is full, but then once it changes to aztec or dust2, every1 leaves! Even worse is that 90% of the players are n00bs.... argh

just a suggestion. maybe u could create a website and update ur cs ip everytime it changes. So if ppl cant connect to ur server, they'll goto the site, and get the updated ip.... :)

Which maps are really popular besides iceworld then? there aren't many servers playing scoutzknivez, so i don't think many ppl have that map.

Ya, i'm thinkin bout gettin a domain and putting up a livestats webpage. But i think that might take up toooo much bandwidth, and lag up the server.

I just got 3.5mbit dsl a few days ago, so theres probably still some quirks with the connection, it'll be worked out real soon, and after that, my IP won't change unless I lose power.

It was so sweet, seeing 14 people on my server, ALL getting less than 70ping :)

A lot of the ppl actually get 15-25ping, which is crazy.

New IP is 216.75.184.68

I seem to lose link almost once every 1.5days, looks like my line needs to be fixed.

I live in Scarborough, no1 else seems to complain bout pings cuz 90% of the ppl who play have lower than 70ping, most of em usually have 20-50ping

cs_estate, cs_mansion (from the betas, great great map to play with new versions of CS), de_railroad (old version, from betas, great to play with new versions), cs_italy, cs_assault, cs_docks, AS_TUNDRA, as_oilrig, as_forest, cs_assault2k, de_jeepathon2k, de_rats, aim_usp, CS_SIEGE, and the list goes one. I've been playin CS since Beta 1.0, I used to have all the maps, but some nerd just had to send me a virus. Anyway, when I get my router fixed i'll be sure to join your server!!

I liked italy when it first came out... it actually looked like europe I've been to... looks nice and all.. heh

they should make a game called.. virtual traveller.. where u can travel the sites like a fps but with a camera... go walk around freely in a massively mutliplayer game.. online..

u can open stores.. and if u ear enuff money.. u can travel to say... australia... and u can use the money u earned to visit the sites.. which should be really realistic with wildlife and what not..

sounds fun donit>
