DSL dialing another DSL Modem

Post by TOCH »

I'm after some help... (Isn't everyone!!)

I'm wondering whether a friend of mine, and myself, could purchase DSL Modems, and use them to connect to each other across the fone line, without having to connect to DSL or ADSL?

We're using 56k Modems at the moment, but that really doesn't provide much speed, so we're were wondering if we could use DSL Modems and get some speed out of them.

If anyone has any idea's, or knows of how I could work it, please let me know... or PM me.

Thanx heaps.

no, that is not possible. It doesn't work like a dial-up modem. In fact it uses a completely different cable than what your phone uses. It doesn't dial out either, the signal originates from an ISP. Therefore, you have to pay for the service to get it.

Basically it just extends the network you currently dial into to your house. Meaning the number you call is connected to the internet the same way DSL from your house is. In general terms...

I've heard there is a way that you can connect 2 DSL Modems without having to be hooked up to an ISP.

I'll keep looking into it, and thanx for the help.
