Ghost hardrive problem

I got a little problem, i installed a new hardrive, maxtor 160 gb , ok now when i boote dup windows it showed it installing on the lower right hand corner i checked my hardware and it shows it working fine but it doesnt show up in my computer like its not there, but i see i running fine in my hardware settings??? what could be the problem, im running windows xp by the way thanx
